Leading fiber internet and technology provider Converge ICT Solutions Inc. maintained stable service for its customers during a recent submarine cable disruption between the Philippines and Singapore, by immediately rerouting traffic to alternative routes — primarily via the new Bifrost international cable system.
“This ensured little to no disruption for our residential and enterprise customers caused by the Singapore–Philippines cable issue,” said Converge CEO Dennis Anthony Uy. Following the incident last Friday, some users reported temporary difficulties accessing apps and websites hosted in Singapore.
“Our investments in these international cable systems were planned as early as five years ago, specifically to prepare for situations like this. Our stakes in the Bifrost Cable System, together with the SEA‑H2X (Southeast Asia–Hainan–Hong Kong Express Cable), give us the critical international network redundancy needed to keep services running smoothly during outages,” Uy explained.
Building a stronger, more connected network
Stretching more than 20,000 kilometers, the trans‑Pacific Bifrost Cable System links the Philippines to Singapore, Indonesia, Guam, and the United States, with a total design capacity exceeding 240 Terabits per second (Tbps). Converge serves as the official landing party for the Philippines, operating the cable landing station in Davao, and owns one full fiber pair on the main trunk line. The Davao branch of the system came ashore in August 2025.

The SEA‑H2X is a 6,000‑kilometer inter‑Asia submarine cable connecting Hong Kong SAR, Lingshui in China’s Hainan province, the Philippines (La Union), Thailand (Songkhla), and Singapore, with a design capacity of over 200 Tbps. Converge is part of the consortium that owns the system, alongside China United Network Communications Group and China Mobile International. The cable’s Philippine landing station is located in La Union.
“Thanks to added capacity from these two new systems, Converge now operates the youngest and most resilient international network among all Philippine telecom operators today,” Uy stated.
Investing for future growth
“With rising demand for artificial intelligence and cloud services, cross‑border data traffic will only keep growing. That is why we made these early investments in subsea cables and data centers — and we will continue expanding our infrastructure to meet increasing needs,” Uy added. “This is a key part of our vision to position the Philippines as a digital gateway between Asia and the rest of the world.”
