BDO projects a net income of ₱53.9 billion for the first nine months of 2023

Capital continues to strengthen with 13% increase in Book Value 

In the third quarter of 2023, BDO Unibank, Inc. (BDO) recorded a net income of ₱53.9  billion, up from P40.0 billion in the third quarter of 2022. This increase was driven by broad-based development across its key operations. Due to this, the Return on Common Equity (ROCE) increased to 15.1% from 12.4% in the same time last year.

Customer Loans climbed 7.5% year over year to P2.7 trillion and Deposits increased 12% to ₱3.4 trillion, bringing Net Interest Income to an increase of P176.4 billion.

With help from a number of fee-based and treasury/FX businesses, non-interest income reached a final value of 57.9 billion.

With sales growth still outpacing expense growth, pre-provision operating profit reached an amount of ₱ 80.6 billion.

Non-Performing Loan (NPL) ratio remained stable at 1.99% despite the higher interest rate environment, while NPL coverage improved to 176%. The Bank continues to set aside provisions in line with its conservative credit and provisioning policies.

Common Equity increased to ₱494.3 billion given continued profitable operations. Book Value Per Share (BVPS) increased 13% to ₱93.83. Capital Adequacy Ratio and Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) Ratio strengthened to 15.6% and 14.5%, respectively, with ample capital buffers vs. regulatory minimum levels. 

While macroeconomic challenges persist, the Bank remains cautiously optimistic and is well-positioned to capitalize on opportunities given its strong balance sheet and diversified business franchise.

At the Jollitown Kiddie Fair, parents and children make unique, jolly memories

Jollibee brand ambassadors Jolina Magdangal Escueta and her kids Pele and Vika, officially opened the Jollitown Kiddie Fair with a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Jollibee team: Assistant Brand Manager for Noodles and Kids Category Justin Mathay, and PR, Partnership and Sustainability Head Dennis Reyes (third and fourth from left); and Marketing Director for Jollibee Noodles and Kids Category Joseph Aruta, and Brand Manager for Noodles and Kids Category Kat Facun (third and fourth from right). The Jollitown Kiddie Fair recently hosted at the SMX Convention Center was a blast for both kids and their parents. Families found the event to be the happiest opportunity for bonding thanks to the enjoyable learning activities, original games and challenges, interactive performances, and all-day entertainment. These memories will last a lifetime.

Jollibee has become a champion of joy for Filipino parents and kids throughout the years, and the Jollitown Kiddie Fair continues to give them more cherished moments. The event was opened by Jollibee’s brand ambassador, Jolina Magdangal Escueta, and her kids, Pele and Vika. She and her kids got to participate and have fun in all the event activities, while also getting interviewed about being a mother and brand ambassador.

Jolina shared her favorite Jollibee memories as a child and how she is recreating them with her kids Pele and Vika. 

“I’m so excited to be here at the Jollitown Kiddie Fair, having fun with my kids,” said Jolina. “Time passes so quickly, so I make sure that I spend quality time and make meaningful memories with Pele and Vika every chance I get.

“Jollibee is honored to be a part of many Filipinos’ core memories, from childhood to adulthood,” said Kat Facun, Jollibee Brand Manager for Noodles and Kids Category. “And with the Jollitown Kiddie Fair, we hope to give kids and their families more reasons to have happy, cherished moments because jolliest ang kids sa Jollibee.”  

Yum, Hetty, Jollibee, Twirlie and Popo shared the joy with the kids and their families, and wowed them with a very energetic dance number. 

The event offered activities where kids not only enjoyed with their friends, families, and fellow kids, but also engaged in unique family-friendly challenges that helped them learn along the way through creative play. Kids got a chance to make their own Jolly Spaghetti, Yumburger, and test their store manager skills in the MiniBee station as they had fun assembling delicious Jollibee food for their friends and parents. They also had the Party Palooza, which was an energetic all-day party celebration that had a whole host of games and activities that offered the full party experience

Kat Facun, Jollibee Brand Manager for Noodles and Kids Category, said that they designed the Jollitown Kiddie Fair so that kids and their parents can do the fun yet educational activities together, building meaningful memories as they did. 

The Jollitown Kiddie Fair also offered activities that challenged their skills, like the Chickenjoy Bucket Throw game where they tested their aim to win prizes, and avoided spaghetti-shaped wires in the Spag-o-wired game. Kids also solved different puzzles in the Jollitown Puzzle House, which was also a fun learning challenge and an interactive experience for kids of all ages. They also uncovered fun prizes in the Fry-nd The Treasure activity, while other kids tried to grab theirs at Yum’s Claw Machine.

Pele and Vika got to enjoy all the Jolly activities in the Jollitown Kiddie Fair.

Kids served Chickenjoy and made their own Jolly Spaghetti and Yumburgers with their parents at the MiniBee station.

Alongside the many activities and fun games, kids also got to watch an incredible set of shows happening on the main stage. This includes the bubble show where kids rushed to the stage to get closer to participate in blowing and popping bubbles. The magic show had jaw-dropping tricks that left kids in awe with each routine. The Dancing Balloon Show by Tectonix was also a highlight, as kids were dancing along to the music while being fascinated by the many balloon tricks. 

Parents and kids alike had a very colorful time at Twirlie’s Face Painting station.

Aside from the activities, parents and kids enjoyed delicious Jollibee food. This included sweet-sarap Jolly Spaghetti, which families enjoyed so much during the event. With delicious food and the jolliest activities, the Jollitown Kiddie Fair gave families moments to remember, and memories that they cherish together.

The PHP25 billion investment by Aboitiz Infracapital, Inc. Uratex: Setting a World Record and Giving Back to the Communities

Uratex Philippines is still contributing to improve the lives of Filipinos and offer memorable experiences as it marks its 55th anniversary. To commemorate this milestone, Uratex reinforces its corporate social responsibility by giving back once again to the communities. Together with the brand’s celebrity endorsers and a select group of social media influencers, Uratex will donate 2,355 mattresses to charity organizations.

Some of the charities that will receive our donations are orphanages and homes for the elderly which provide sanctuary for individuals who have been abandoned by their families. Among the specific beneficiaries are House of Somang (House for the Elderly), Saint Rita Orphanage, Tahanan ng Pagmamahal Children’s Home, and Bethany House Sto. Niño Orphanage. These organizations play a vital role in offering care and support to those who need them most. 

This unique opportunity allows Uratex to further reach the communities that it serves and makes a positive impact on the lives of its partners and customers.

The external partners of Uratex have helped in choosing the charities in need of mattresses, including shelters or homes for the aged, women, children and adults with special needs and community hospitals from across the region. Uratex prioritizes underfunded charities or those who do not have sufficient financial resources to carry out their missions effectively. 

Moreover, Uratex is mindful of its role in protecting the environment. 

Uratex is actively supporting different sustainability programs such as tree planting, mangrove planting, and green initiatives towards use of solar panels and electric vehicles. World-Class Company Sets a World Record

The 2,355 mattresses, the top-selling Classic Uratex Single (36 x 75), were used in an extraordinary event set to become an iconic undertaking. On October 22 at the SMX Convention Center (Halls 2-4), the world-class Filipino company set the Guinness World Record of the largest Human Mattress Domino.

Through the years, Uratex is guided by the vision of its founder, Mr. Robert Cheng: “We will not stop until we provide every Filipino with a comfortable and affordable mattress to rest on.” 

As such, Uratex wants to share its mission far and wide as they made the official attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest human mattress domino in celebration of its 55th Anniversary by using a total of 2,355 mattresses.

The initial two numbers, 2 and 3, are derived from the year 2023, while the final two, 5 and 5, were selected to commemorate Uratex's 55th anniversary in 2023. 

The largest human mattress dominoes was previously recorded in Brazil, consisting of 2,019 people. It was achieved by Globo Comunicação e Participações S.A. and Ortobom at Riocentro, in Rio de Janeiro, on August 6, 2019. The attempt lasted 11 minutes and 13 seconds. After which, all the 2,019 mattresses were donated to charities.

The participants were selected from a list of volunteers, which included both Uratex employees and charity representatives. All volunteers who met the height and age criteria specified by Guinness (at least 4’11” in height, aged 16 and above) and were in good physical condition were welcomed to be part of the event.

“Teamwork is what made us last for 55 years, and by collectively striving to set a world record for the largest human mattress dominoes, each individual plays a crucial role in achieving this feat,” Eddie Gallor, Executive Vice President for Automotive. “And because Uratex is dedicated to giving back to various charitable causes. Surpassing a Guinness World Record serves as a meaningful avenue towards making this philanthropic endeavor a reality.” 

Icons For an Iconic Brand

The record-setting event was witnessed by Uratex owners and executives led by Mrs. Naty Cheng, the CEO and president; William Lee, EVP for furniture and beddings; Eddie Gallor, executive vice president for automotive; Peachy Medina, managing director; and Stephen Cheng-Lee - Sleep Business Unit director.
