Sunrise Trail Hike at Masungi Georeserve: An Empowering and Meaningful Birthday Celebration

Image
Since I was a child, as soon as June approaches, I feel thrilled because it's my birth month. I don't eagerly anticipate gifts, but rather the greetings from family and friends. It brings me joy. I am easily pleased. It doesn't take much to make me happy. Whenever I am asked what I want for my birthday, my usual response is "nothing" or "I don't know; I can't think of anything I want or need." I am not materialistic. I am happy. I am healthy. I am blessed with family and true friends. Feeling ko nasa akin na ang lahat and I prefer inner peace. Fancy that! Haha. I find more joy in giving, whether to family, friends, or even strangers. But this time, I said, "Lord, can I give myself a gift this time?" Since a retreat in Batulao is not possible yet, I scheduled a day for myself for a pampering session at the mall. I want to have a massage, facial, manicure/pedicure. I simply wish to unwind and disconnect from the online world for an entire...

Converge Expands Award-Winning ‘Project PIGLET’ Child Online Safety Initiative to Cebu

Converge amplified its nationwide child online safety and data privacy campaign, extending its award-winning digital literacy initiative, Project PIGLET, to elementary students in Cebu.

Leading fiber broadband and technology provider Converge ICT Solutions Inc. is scaling up its nationwide child online safety and data privacy campaign, bringing its multi-awarded digital literacy program Project PIGLET to elementary learners in Cebu.

This expansion marks a key milestone in the company’s regional advocacy work, bringing vital cybersecurity education to the Visayas region. Short for Privacy Integration through Guided Learning of Emerging Technologies, Project PIGLET was delivered by Converge’s Data Privacy and Corporate Communications teams through interactive, space-themed sessions for Grade 3 and Grade 5 pupils at the Science and Technology Education Center – Science and Technology Elementary School (STEC-STES) in Lapu-Lapu City.

For the Cebu leg, students joined a fun, engaging storytelling session titled “The Adventures of Captain Conrad and the Astro Kids.” Curated for learners as young as seven years old, the curriculum covers identifying online scams, preventing identity theft, and staying safe from online grooming. This run also added essential lessons on responsible online interaction and recognizing harmful or malicious content.

“Now more than ever, the internet can be exploited to target minors, so we must take proactive steps to teach children how to stay vigilant,” said Eumir Paolo Espiritu, Converge AVP and Head of Data Privacy and Information Security Compliance. “The digital world opens endless doors for learning, but only if our youth have the knowledge to navigate it safely.”

Atty. Laurice Esteban-Tuason, Converge SVP and Data Protection Officer, added: “Project PIGLET is designed to help young students make cyber awareness a natural part of using the internet. While we work tirelessly to block harmful content on our network, keeping the internet safe requires all of us to work together.”

Supporting Schools and Local Communities

To further bridge the digital divide and empower Cebuano learners, Converge also donated learning tablets to STEC. These devices will strengthen the school’s digital capacity and give students reliable access to safe, educational online resources.

Officials from Converge and STEC-STES as the technology company handed over 20 learning tablets to support the school in honing their students’ digital skills. IN PHOTO: Converge VP and Head of Corporate Communications and Public Relations Jay-Anne Encarnado (center), STEC-STES Principal Susana Amora (center-left), Converge Regional General Manager - Visayas Geovani Jayme (center-right). STEC-STES Principal Susana Amora expressed her sincere appreciation for the partnership, calling it perfectly timed amid growing digitization in education. “We have fully entered the digital era, and with it comes an urgent need for responsible online habits. Parents and teachers have a huge role to play in guiding children, and we are grateful to Converge for bringing these resources and lessons directly to our community,” she shared.

“As an internet service provider, we aim to deliver a clean, secure network — but we cannot achieve this alone,” said Jay-Anne Encarnado, Converge VP and Head of Corporate Communications and Public Relations. “We need a united ecosystem of parents, educators, and schools working with us to protect the digital lives of Filipino children.”

Stronger Network Protection, Holistic Safety

This community-focused advocacy complements Converge’s robust, industry-leading network security measures. In 2025 alone, the company blocked nearly 12 billion attempts to access sites hosting dangerous or inappropriate content, and blacklisted more than 72,000 domains linked to illicit material.

“We take a firm stand against harmful and exploitative content that endangers the most vulnerable, especially our children,” said Dennis Anthony Uy, Converge CEO and Co-Founder. “Beyond investing heavily in advanced network defense tools, we collaborate closely with government bodies including the DICT, NTC, CICC, and PNP, as well as global partners like the Internet Watch Foundation, to eliminate cyber threats at their source. But filtering content is only half the solution. Empowering our youth through education is the strongest shield we can give them.”

Award-Winning Mission, Growing Reach

Project PIGLET has earned national recognition, receiving the prestigious Kabataang Digital Award from the National Privacy Commission (NPC) for its outstanding work advancing digital responsibility, privacy awareness, and child data protection across the Philippines.

First launched in late 2024, the program has now been rolled out across Metro Manila, Pampanga, Mindoro, and Cebu — bringing Converge’s core “Tech for Good” mission to more communities, and ensuring no one is left behind in the digital age.
