SM holds Emergency Preparedness Forum series for PWD, elderly

File photo from the Emergency Preparedness Forum 2018. Leading the inspection of emergency equipment are (middle of the photo, left to right) DOST Undersecretary Dr. Renato Solidum Jr., SM Cares program director for senior citizens Danilo Chavez, and SM Cares program director for PWDs, Bien Mateo.

SM Cares, the corporate social responsibility arm of SM Prime Holdings, Inc., will be conducting the 5th Emergency Preparedness Forum, in its continuing thrust to make persons with disabilities (PWDs) and senior citizens more resilient and better prepared in times of disasters. From what was an annual event held in a single venue, SM Cares now brings the forum across five SM malls nationwide from June 21 to July 12, 2019, in observance of the National Disaster Resilience Month.

Participating malls include SM City Clark (June 21), SM City Marikina (July 2), SM City Dasmariñas (July 5), SM City Batangas (July 9), and SM Center Muntinlupa (July 12), all happening from 10 AM to 12 Noon.

Facilitating the forum are DOST Undersecretary, PHIVOLCS director, and leading expert in geology and seismology, Dr. Renato Solidum Jr., joined by Dr. Ted Esguerra, who is an active member of numerous emergency preparedness and disaster response units around the globe. Both highly-regarded experts will impart knowledge about natural disasters and how to properly respond to them.

“We believe that there is a strong need to reach out to the communities that include persons with disabilities. They may either be out of reach from proper information, or they may have misconceptions on how to react to emergencies. And we are very fortunate to have Dr. Solidum and Dr. Esguerra, to help us understand and develop a more disaster-resilient way of living for PWDs,” said Bien Mateo, SM Cares program director for persons with disabilities.

“For our elderly, we have our undeniable limitations such as mobility and sensory capacities. They may know that there is an emergency, but are unable to act upon it. We want to enlighten them that there are responses that they can do that best fits their situation. This is one way we want to strengthen the communities of our senior citizens,” added Danilo Chavez, SM Cares program director for senior citizens.

The project is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Goal No. 11: to make cities and human settlements sustainable. It is projected that by 2050, 70% of the world’s population will be living in cities, making sustainability a critical priority. SM, together with national government agencies and community members, are collectively engaged in pursuing objectives to make cities safer, resource-efficient, resilient and inclusive.

SM continues to promote a barrier-free and disability-inclusive environment to ensure that SM becomes a place for all, and where everyone is cared for. More than these sectors of the community, this series of events also encourages everyone to make emergency preparedness more than just a vital piece of knowledge, but a way of life.

SM Cares is the Corporate Social Responsibility arm of SM Prime Holdings, Inc. Its advocacies include Environment Sustainability, Programs on Persons with Disabilities, Children and Youth, Women and Breastfeeding Mothers, Senior Citizens, and Overseas Filipino Workers (SM Global Pinoy).

As a responsible member of the community, SM Supermalls, through the CSR programs of SM Cares, aims to serves as a catalyst for positive change in society. To know more about SM Cares, you may visit www.smacares.com.ph, www.facebook.com/OfficialSMCares or email smcares@smsupermalls.com.

Every Wonder Wo-mom’s must-haves in preventing the common cold and flu-like illnesses from getting worse

Stomp the sniffles. Stop the common cold in its tracks!

With the rainy season fast approaching, the risk of catching a cold or the flu is not far behind.

As much as you want your kids to experience the happiness of playing in the rain, your motherly instinct kicks in and keeps you worried that they might catch the flu or a cold. Studies show that an adult can get (2) two to (4) four episodes of the common cold annually while kids can get (6) six to (12) twelve episodes, but you can prevent that from happening! As every wonder wo-mom knows, a little prevention goes a long way. We've got you covered with seven items you need to have to help stomp out the sniffles.

✔ A bottle full of water
Drinking lots of water will help decongest airways and keep the throat moist. Keeping your family hydrated is one of the best things you can do for their bodies while their immune system is gearing up for a fight against the cold.

✔ A pack of immunity-boosting snacks
Consuming immunity-boosting food items on a regular basis will help prevent many illnesses including the cold and flu. If you are keen on living a healthy life, chow down on fresh fruits, yoghurt, and other healthy snacks. Doing so can save you and your kids from an unnecessary visit to the doctor.

✔ A handy-dandy hand sanitizer
Here’s another thing that can keep the entire family healthy: hand sanitizers! Bacteria and viruses are everywhere so it’s better for your kids to always have a bottle of hand sanitizer or even a good ole’ bottle of isopropyl alcohol in the bag. Keeping their hands clean is one of the best ways to prevent the spread of illnesses.

✔ A lot of tissue paper
When the cold and flu season hits, you’re going to need more tissue paper than you think. Always have a box of tissue paper because “lots” is never enough for a family. Just always remember to dispose of them properly and clean your hands after blowing your nose. By following this you and your family can help effectively stop the spread of viruses.

✔ A stylish scarf
Of course, you’d want your family to be protected from allergens and viruses outside your home. Give them something to cover themselves with! May it be a nice handkerchief, a stylish scarf, or a sterile face mask, you should always be prepared most especially when the fambam is going to a crowded place.

A ton of patience, love, and understanding
Being a mom to sick kids can really be a test of patience. They all have their own quirks and nursing them can really wear you down so it’s always good to prepare yourself mentally and emotionally for the battle. Remember to ask for help, pray for love and patience, and most importantly, keep yourself healthy.

✔  A trusted cold defense nasal spray
Aside from having tons of patience and understanding, you need to have a trusted companion in keeping your family healthy. Hold the cold off before it worsens by using one of the leading and most trusted antiseptic brand in the country that is BETADINE®4,5,6. It has a whole line of upper respiratory care products that are proven to be safe and effective including BETADINE® Cold Defense Nasal Spray.

By using BETADINE® Cold Defense Nasal Spray at the onset of sickness, you can shorten the duration of cold symptoms by up to two (2) days and keep the viruses from spreading further and the colds from worsening. Its formulation includes Carragelose®, a natural active ingredient that has antiviral effects and is clinically proven to eliminate 99% of the common cold and flu viruses such as rhinovirus, coronavirus, and influenza A virus which are common causes of respiratory infections. BETADINE® Cold Defense Nasal Spray is recommended for children 1 year old and above. Plus, it is natural, steroid free, drug free, and has contamination-proof nozzle.

Don’t let common cold and flu hinder your family from creating many wonderful memories together. Always remember to stock up on BETADINE® Cold Defense Nasal Spray for Kids and Adults and stop cold and flu-like illnesses from the get-go.

Spending time in forests can be healthy for us

PWPA encourages Filipinos to do “forest bathing”

  • Everywhere we look, there seems to be a reason for us to be stressed. Whether we’re dealing with looming deadlines at work, drama at home, or even just finding a date, there are things that weigh us down. Sometimes, all we need is to escape the hassles of everyday life.

Being a tropical country, it’s a good thing that we can always find solace in the lush greenery offered by our forests. But did you know that taking refuge, even for a short while, under the canopy can improve your life and bring plenty of benefits?

Forest bathing, or what is known in Japanese as shinrin-yoku, is a cornerstone of preventive healthcare and healing in Japanese medicine. The concept was first established in Japan in the 1980s, and since then it has been backed by multiple South Korean and Japanese studies. The studies have found direct correlation between numerous health benefits and the exposure to a living forest.

Some of the most significant health benefits that a person can get from exposure to forests are: a boost to our immune system, lower blood pressure, lower stress levels, improved mood, increased focus, and better sleep. But aside from these, it can also help us increase creativity, allows us to relax, and increases our happiness.

This is the reason why the Philippine Wood Producers Association (PWPA) is advocating for more people to experience forest bathing.

“We all know what our forests do for our environment,” Charlie Liu, Chairman of PWPA said. “Forest bathing goes beyond that and shows what a healthy forest can do for individuals. It is heartening that more and more Filipinos are choosing to discover the health benefits of our forests through forest bathing.”

Aside from encouraging more Filipinos to visit their forests, PWPA is campaigning for the protection of our forests and the practice of sustainable forest management to promote the well-being of the local forestry industry. The organization continuously promotes wood, which when harnessed sustainably, can be an important driver of growth and development for many communities in the Philippines and its economy as a whole.

In line with its goal to increase the sustainable use of wood, PWPA is holding the Philippine Wood Expo 2019 at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza this October 21 to 22. The event promises to be a great opportunity for suppliers and manufacturers of wood products as well as wood enthusiasts to showcase their products and innovative technologies to attendees coming from various countries. The Philippine Wood Expo 2019 aims to expand the reach of businesses in the wood sector by providing them with the opportunity to interface with other industry players.

To learn more about PWPA or to learn how you can take part in the Philippine Wood Expo 2019, visit their website at http://www.pwpa.org.ph and join their fight for a better tomorrow on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pwpa.philwood.

It strives to serve and protect the market of the wood industry against unfair trade practices. By executing events such as the annual Philippine Wood Expo, participating in timber conferences, workshops, and environmental advocacies, it attains the public’s appreciation for its role in the social, economic, and environmental development of the country.

Why every parent should invest in a home security tool

Security is a crucial aspect of any happy home, a space where families grow together and nurture each other. It is a haven where one can play freely and rest comfortably. A home is a nest where family members should feel safe and secured.

However, the reality is different. In 2018, a Q1 survey  revealed that more than 500,000 families reported break-in in their own homes. Despite this figure representing a decline compared to the previous year, break-in among other crimes is still a major cause of concern to many Filipino families.

While it is impossible to predict what might happen, a home security tool can certainly provide parents and homeowners an extra layer of security and added peace of mind.

Advance home monitoring device

To address the home security need of every Filipino family, leading digital services provider, PLDT brings the Advanced Fam Cam — a home monitoring tool with improved features in visual coverage, motion and sound detection and high-definition (HD) quality images.
The product is a 180-degree wireless HD camera with a speaker and microphone that allows parents to visually check on their kids and communicate with them.
Advanced Fam Cam is designed for on-the-go and working parents who wish to check their children even when they are away from home. The device can be linked to smartphones through the MyDlink application. This gives every parent the ability to access and monitor their children real time. You can also use this security tool if you simply want to monitor your home.
For only an additional P399 per month, this advanced home monitoring tool is exclusively available to existing PLDT Home Fibr subscribers with Plans 1299 and up.
Keep your family close and get an added peace of mind wherever you are.

Father's day 2019

Life is too short to hide your feelings. Don't be afraid to say what you feel.

This is my Daddy. So him!
📸 ctto

June is special because it is #PrincessY's , my dad's (+) and my birthmonth. Here in the Philippines, we also celebrate Father's day every 3rd Sunday of June. This year, Father's day will fall on June 16 (yes, tomorrow na yun). A day before my birthday. 💛

Most of us are "maka-nanay" that we sometimes forget to give thanks to our father. Or baka nahihiya sa tatay mag express since most Tatays naman are not that expressive din.

I have a challenge for you, yes you! post a photo of your father or husband (wait for my post sa FB page) and answer what makes you proud of your dad/husband? And yung song na dine-dedicate mo sa kanya? Do shout it to the world loud and clear because TIME is GOLD!

Please do comment here (sa blog) as well, your message to your father /husband, your name and location and win a Love Hope Faith 4.0 watch! 💛

Happy Father's day! Enjoy! 😍

Road safety tips for a fun and unforgettable trip

Rain or shine. No matter the weather. Practice road safety before and while you are behind the wheel for a hassle-free and ejoyable road trips. Remember, safety first always!

Here are some road safety tips from AXA Philippines, one of the leading insurance companies in the country:

Have your car checked. Take your car to your trusted mechanic and have the battery, lights, oil, water, brakes, air, and gas (B.L.O.W.B.A.G.) checked, as well as your air conditioner. Always have a tool kit and a usable spare tire ready, in case of a flat tire.

Get a good rest before you hit the road. Driving long distances with very little sleep is dangerous as it can affect your alertness and your overall driving skills. Having coffee or a caffeinated drink may not be enough. So get that proper shut-eye — at least six to nine hours of uninterrupted sleep — before that trip.

Plan your route. When going somewhere far for the first time, it’s best to do research first on the surrounding areas, the best routes to take, and the general road conditions there. Download a navigation app on your smartphone so you don’t get lost or get stuck in heavy traffic.

Buckle up, even if you’re a rear seat passenger. It’s important to wear your seatbelt — for the driver as well as front and rear seat passengers. This safety restraint system can protect you in times of collisions and prevent you from hitting the dashboard, the windshield, the seat in front of you, or worse.

Keep your distance. Be conscious of braking distances and leave a safe space between your vehicle and the one ahead of you, so in case of an abrupt stop, a potential collision can be avoided.

Insure your vehicle. Having car insurance, like the comprehensive insurance coverage offered by AXA Philippines, can protect you against losses and liabilities arising from road mishaps. AXA Car Insurance is available for purchase online. Its policy holders can also avail of 24/7 emergency roadside assistance coverage across the country. This insurance product also offers the AXA Assist app, which presents a first-of-its-kind emergency red button. In case of emergencies, the application sends a distress message and location of the policy holder to emergency contact person/s, and AXA Assistance’s command center. What this brings is added peace of mind and security, so you can enjoy your drive and your trip!

Sarah G to independent ladies: Learn how to cook for yourself

The Popstar Royalty shares why cooking gives her a sense of freedom

What is an independent Filipina? Is she someone who likes to do things on her own, learn new experiences as she moves through life, or someone who knows how to take care of herself? For many women, being independent means more than living on their own. It also means experiencing life in her own terms and being able to follow one’s passion without restriction.

Take it from Popstar Royalty Sarah Geronimo who is starting to claim and enjoy her own independence—free to chase her passion and discover new ones. “Para po sa’kin, being an independent person means kaya mong gawin ‘yung mga bagay na gusto mong gawin. As an independent woman, gustung-gusto ko pong mag-explore ng mga bagay na di ko pa nagagawa, and also learn more about myself in the process.”

One passion she decided to pursue is cooking. “Ang sarap po kasi ng pakiramdam na kaya mong ipagluto yung sarili mo. Whenever I cook, I get that sense of freedom in my own kitchen. I’m free to experiment, try new dishes, or recreate my Mom’s recipes,” she adds. “Kaya to all independent women out there, I advise that you learn how to cook. It’s very empowering to rely on yourself, and a good start will be in the kitchen.”

As testament to her new-found independence in pursuing her passion, Sarah even shared some easy-to-cook recipes. Her favorites are found in the cookbook that comes with every purchase of the all-new Phoenix Super LPG at select super hubs.

Whether you’re living alone or just simply someone who loves to do things on their own, these Sarah G-approved dishes will make you rediscover the joys of cooking (and eating!).

Havas Group Reimagines PR Group with Launch of Red Havas

In line with its global rebranding, Havas PR Philippines becomes part of the Merged Media micro-network.

The passionate and incredible REDsters of Red Havas Philippines (L-R): Marion Esquillo, Havas Group Associate Creative Director; Marco Grajo, Account Manager; Charisse Vilchez, Business Unit Director; Jookie Radoc, Media Relations Manager; Janessa Tek-ing, Senior Account Manager and Cid Santillan, Account Director

As creative and media agencies face a near-daily redefinition of their identities and scopes of work in the modern media landscape, public relations agencies in particular are being completely reconstructed. How can PR companies adopt at the pace of today’s lighting-speed multimedia landscape?

Havas Group, with its shared Merged Media strategy, announced that it has rebranded a number of its award-winning PR and social agencies including its Manila office under a new name, Red Havas. Through Merged Media, the micro-network reimagines the way it does PR and drives its agencies to new heights by blending traditional and digital publishing, content, social media, and data in a way that defines the future of PR as a category.

Red Havas’ office in Manila, Philippines is part of leading fully-integrated media and creative agency, Havas Ortega (HVO). Under the tutelage of Business Director Charisse Vilchez, Havas PR Manila will now be Red Havas Philippines, along with other Asia Pacific-based Red Agency networks in Australia, Singapore and Havas PR North America with offices in New York City, New England, Phoenix and Pittsburgh. In addition, Red Havas has rebranded its Havas PR offices in Vietnam and Jakarta, Manchester, Edinburgh and opened a new office in London. The new brand has expansion plans to Japan and South America within 18-24 months.

“Havas Ortega welcomes the rebranding of our PR team to Red Havas. The current team is more than ready to take on the challenge and bring PR to the next level. Red Havas Philippines, together with its passionate and incredible REDsters, will help create our clients’ brand stories through Merged Media,” said HVO Chief Executive Officer Jos Ortega. “I am confident that with Char’s experience working in two strong online brands OLX and Agoda and her training at Red Havas in Australia, we will be able to live up to our ambition of owning Merged Media in the local scene.”

The rebranding coincides with global-led investments into data, content and bespoke insight tools, which will include listening and predictive analytics platforms that will layer in a foretelling media capability not seen before within the industry.

“The guiding light of PR has always been to integrate brands or organizations stories into the daily conversations of the media ecosystem,” said James Wright, global chairman of the Havas PR Collective and global CEO of Red Havas. “PR is one of the most powerful tools that brands can use to connect to audiences, but it’s essential that it integrates seamlessly across content types and sources and operates at the pace, and in the ways, of today’s consumer. With content, social and predictive data at the core, we’ve built a model that merges all of the various media sources and essentially redefines the PR capability entirely.”

Commenting on the global rebranding, Yannick Bollore, CEO and chairman of Havas Group, said: “Red Havas is a new, transformational and unmatched micro agency network that will help redefine PR and its value to clients. Along with the power of Havas Group and the world-class entertainment capabilities we have within Vivendi, the proposition of merged media becomes very interesting. We have big ambitions to develop and invest in this further.”

Red Havas is part of the Havas PR Global Collective, the PR and communications arm of the Havas Group that comprises approximately 40 agencies around the world and more than 1,300 employees. At this stage, there are no plans to rebrand other Havas-owned PR agencies.
