Exploring Local Gems: Big Bad Wolf Celebrates Filipino Voices and Stories at Trinoma Book Sale Opening

Prepare for another fun literary celebration, Manila Wolfies! Big Bad Wolf continues its mission to reach IM new readers as it kicks off another spectacular Manila book sale at Ayala Malls TriNoma Activity Center from August 7 to August 15, from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM every Monday to Thursday, and 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM every Friday to Sunday!

The Big Bad Wolf TriNoma Book Sale will see another appearance Metrobank to offer credit cardholders a special 0% 3-month installment promo for single-receipt purchases worth at least P3,000. Swedish furnishing brand IKEA is heading up north to the book sale to give visitors an exclusive treat!

In time for the celebration of "Buwan ng Wika," Big Bad Wolf sought to uplift local voices and stories by bringing together an impressive lineup of local publishers at the Big Bad Wolf Trinome Book Sale. Local publishers such as Feast Books, Adarna, Tahanan Lampara, Bookmark, along with independent book publishers are uniting to showcase the rich and vibrant Filipino literature. This collaboration shines a spotlight on local narratives, ensuring that these diverse stories reach a wider audience.

Big Bad Wolf Books Co-founder Jacqueline Ng reiterated the motivation for each Big Bad Wolf Book Sale saying, "Our mission has always been to make reading accessible and enjoyable for everyone." She added, "We are working with local publishers not only to promote reading but also to celebrate the vibrant and diverse stories that reflect the Filipino community's unique heritage."

"It's always heartwarming and extremely rewarding to see so many people passionate about books," said Big Bad Wolf Books Philippine Managing Partner Carol Chuaying. "The stories and voices from our local publishers bring a unique perspective to our readers, and we are happy to provide a platform that amplifies their work."

Guests can immerse themselves in Big Bad Wolf's vibrant selection of over two million books including incredible titles from local publishers. Local stories in the book sale include Anya Chelabian and Faye Villanueva's "Ma-I" series from Kawangis Publishing, Ana Digi's "Sa Kalye Mailap" and "Sinta" from Street Tales Publishing, "José Corazon de Jesus: Mga Piling Tula" edited by National Artist for Literature Virgilio S. Almario from San Anselmo Press.

Also featured in the book sale are books by Palanca Awardee and National Artist for Film and Broadcast Ricky Lee, such as "Sa Puso ng Himala," "For (Or How Love Devastates Four Out of Every Five of Us)," and "Kulang na Silya at Iba Pang Kwentong Buhay: Essays on Life and Writing."

The third Manila book sale also marks the continuing partnership between Big Bad Wolf and Ayala Malls, with Big Bad Wolf extending its support for the Ayala Malls' "BookLat: Open. Imagine. Discover." initiative, which encourages young people within Ayala Malls and Ayala Land Estates communities to read for leisure and entertainment. Ayala Malis aims to collect 20,000 books for public school students from kindergarten to grade 3.

Big Bad Wolf Returns to Manila: Third Time's the Charm at Ayala Malls Trinoma

The Big Bad Wolf Book Sale is back in Manila for a third time, this time setting up shop at Ayala Malls Trinoma from August 7th to 15th.  The world's largest book sale is known for its massive selection of books at incredibly discounted prices, and this event promises to be no different. 

This time, the Big Bad Wolf is bringing over two million books to TriNoma, spanning diverse genres including self-help, Filipino literature, romance, and more.  The sale will also feature a partnership with Metrobank, offering credit cardholders a 0% 3-month installment promo for single-receipt purchases of P3,000 or more.

This TriNoma event marks a continued commitment from Big Bad Wolf to expand its reach in the Philippines and support the local literary landscape. The sale aligns with Ayala Malls' "BookLat: Open. The Wolf Returns to Manila: The Big Bad Wolf Conquers Parqal!

Attention, book lovers! The Big Bad Wolf Book Sale, the world's biggest book sale, continues “changing the world one book at a time” as it sets off on a nationwide tour. The “Big Bad Tour: Mission 1 New Million Readers” will kick off at Parqal, Aseana City from May 24 to June 2, 2024. 

This historical endeavor is dedicated to nurturing literacy, enhancing reading comprehension, and instilling a love of reading among Filipinos of all ages. The book sale is set to tour across the country, visiting bustling urban hubs and secluded rural communities. Featuring a diverse array of books at budget-friendly prices, the tour spotlights educational titles, children’s stories, and Filipino literature, championing inclusivity in reading accessibility.

The Ambassador of Malaysia to the Philippines Datu Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino spoke at the event emphasizing the importance of empowering younger generations to help bring the country to greater heights. “What we are doing today is to inspire the younger generation to build a better Philippines,” said the Malaysian ambassador.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Undersecretary of Legislative Affairs Fatima Aliah Dimaporo presented the DSWD’s data on poverty and literacy in the Philippines. She reported on the correlation of poverty and literacy in the Philippines, thus the government agency has implemented programs to aid the members of underprivileged communities through education. Dimaporo also highlighted the efforts being done by the DSWD, in collaboration with Big Bad Wolf Books and the Malaysian embassy, to help address the need for improved literacy in these communities.

7-year-old Monica Bautista, an early reader who was also at the event, talked about her love for reading. Bautista started reading signs and symbols at the age of 2. A year later, she was reading on her own. “I think children should read more books because it can help boost our imagination, and books help us learn new stuff,” she expressed. 

The tour promises an unparalleled experience, featuring meet-and-greets with beloved authors, storytelling sessions, and interactive events crafted to make reading a joyous and enlightening pursuit. These festivities are open to schools, families, and readers of all ages, contributing to the movement to reshape the country’s reading landscape.
