Converge ICT Solutions Inc. CEO and Co-Founder Dennis Anthony Uy is championing the development of more forward-looking infrastructure across the Philippines, while commending the recently finished MACEA Underground Conduit Network (MUCN) spearheaded by the Makati Central Estate Association, Inc. (MaCEA).

During a recent meeting with MaCEA representatives, Uy emphasized that the underground network will serve as a sturdy foundational framework for telecommunications providers, while minimizing disruptions in the Makati Central Business District over the long term.

MaCEA – a civic organization representing property owners and developers in the district – led the MUCN initiative to align local infrastructure with global best practices. “The MACEA Underground Conduit Network establishes a reliable highway for telcos, drastically cutting down service interruptions caused by repeated repair work,” said MaCEA General Manager Getty E. Granada. “This shared underground pathway boosts network dependability and gives residents and building tenants access to multiple service providers, fully supporting Makati’s goal of becoming a smart, future-ready city.”

Underground conduit systems, already standard in advanced economies such as Singapore, offer significant advantages for power and telecom providers. By housing cables below ground, they enhance network resilience and enable more efficient installation, maintenance, and upgrades of lines.

Converge CEO Dennis Anthony Uy has called for expanded investment in future-proof national infrastructure, while applauding the MACEA Underground Conduit Network project. The completed system provides a robust structural backbone for telecommunications services in the Makati Central Business District.

Uy noted that Converge is actively backing efforts to improve efficiency across the telecommunications industry, and is a strong advocate for the “Dig Once” policy reinforced by the Konektadong Pinoy Act. “This approach benefits service providers, local governments, and cities alike,” he said. “The development of Makati’s underground conduit network is a welcome step, and we are eager to collaborate on similar initiatives.”

He highlighted that underground structures protect cables far more effectively than overhead lines, reducing the need for repairs that are often delayed by permitting processes with local authorities. “Unlike with power or water infrastructure, where repairs can proceed immediately, internet service providers frequently face delays,” Uy explained. “Underground conduits make cables less vulnerable to damage, ensuring more consistent and reliable connectivity for customers.”

Beyond improved reliability, the underground infrastructure lowers public safety risks, enhances urban aesthetics, and supports better city planning by optimizing the use of urban space – a clear advantage over aerial cable installations.

Uy also emphasized that Converge is well-equipped to deliver not just core connectivity, but a full suite of digital tools and services to empower building owners for the next phase of technological advancement. “Our philosophy is ‘Tech for Good’ – every aspect of our work, from connectivity to system integration and innovation, is designed to advance businesses and uplift communities,” he stated. “We are committed to ensuring MaCEA members lead not only in business excellence but also in building a more connected and empowered society.”

The MUCN was developed to create a unified raceway for all data providers operating in the Makati Central Business District, streamlining the deployment of telecommunications facilities across areas managed by MaCEA. The network includes dedicated ducts for member companies and spans 25.1 kilometers within MaCEA’s jurisdiction. Construction began in 2019 and was successfully completed in December 2024.
