Grapes for the holidays and for good health

Grapes are a big part of my childhood.

My mom would buy a lot of grapes to go with her homemade fruit salad, especially during Christmas. Then she would hang some of them on our windows and doors for prosperity for the coming year. This was according to tradition and there was no harm in doing so, she added.

Now that I'm an adult, I continue to carry on that tradition. Grapes are ALWAYS present during the holiday season, though I prefer to enjoy them fresh and not hang them for the critters to feast on, hehe. Prosperity follows if you have a happy and healthy life. Eat them grapes!

My family LOVES grapes. They’re a staple in our household even after the holidays. Grapes also keep us and the kids energized and hydrated. Snacking on them has become a habit.

We particularly enjoy Grapes from California. Oh my, THEY ARE GOOD! The best grapes we have ever tasted. We’ve tried other grapes, but Grapes from California are on a league of their own: super sweet, fresh, firm, plump, and juicy!

Fact check time! I found out that 99% of table grapes grown in the United States come from California (kudos to the Golden State!) and that they have been cultivating them for more than two centuries. They are in season from May to January (mark your calendars!) and that there are more than 80 varieties grown in three colors (red, green, and black) in seeded and seedless options (both are equally yummy).

As a mom, I’m so glad I don’t have to force my kids to eat grapes. They’re one of the few fruits that they actually ask for! The nutrients in grapes help support the cardiovascular and immune systems, as well as help maintain a healthy brain, colon, and skin. What more can you ask for?

I enjoy making yummy charcuterie for my family and friends. Of course, there should always be grapes on the board! No need to cut, slice, and peel.  They offer the perfect balance of sweet and tart, and a juicy burst of flavor. Grapes also pair well with many foods and drinks. So versatile!

I keep my board simple. You can customize it and include other cured meats, cheeses, nuts, fruits, crackers, jellies, and jams. Check your pantry and fridge before heading to the store, I’m pretty sure you’ll find something delicious you can use!
