Jollibee Group Champions Sustainability and Community Impact at Danao Commissary in Cebu

Sustainability by Design. An on-site wastewater treatment facility at the Danao Commissary treats all wastewater to meet environmental standards, helping safeguard local water resources. The system was built into the facility’s design from the outset, reflecting the Jollibee Group’s commitment to sustainability by design.

The Jollibee Group highlighted the sustainability-driven design and community impact of its Danao Commissary in Cebu, underscoring how responsible manufacturing practices are embedded into the company’s operations as part of its Joy for Tomorrow global sustainability agenda.

“Designed with sustainability at its core, our Danao Commissary integrates environmental initiatives directly into everyday operations, supporting the Jollibee Group’s commitment to scaling our manufacturing and logistics footprint responsibly,” said Michael T. Ong, President, Manufacturing and Logistics, Jollibee Group.

Two sustainability features stand out at the facility. The Danao Commissary is powered by 99% renewable energy, primarily geothermal supplied by First Gen, complemented by on-site rooftop solar panels. This transition significantly reduces the commissary’s carbon footprint while ensuring a reliable energy supply for operations.

The Danao Commissary also integrates responsible water management systems to support sustainable operations and protect local water resources. The facility is equipped with a rainwater collection system that helps reduce reliance on freshwater, alongside a dedicated on-site wastewater treatment facility that ensures all wastewater generated is treated and that effluent discharge meets required environmental standards before release.

Solar panels installed across the roof of the Jollibee Group’s Danao Commissary help power the facility with 99% renewable energy, complementing its shift to geothermal electricity. The installation reflects how sustainability features were built into the facility’s design to support efficient, low-carbon operations.

In total, 31 sustainability initiatives were incorporated into the facility, drawing from proven practices already implemented across the Jollibee Group’s manufacturing and logistics network. These initiatives align with the Planet pillar of the Jollibee Group’s Joy for Tomorrow agenda, which focuses on waste reduction and water and energy efficiency, ensuring that sustainability is built into operations as the business grows.

Beyond environmental performance, the Danao Commissary creates shared value for the local community through employment, skills development, safe operations, and environmental stewardship. To date, the facility has generated close to 500 jobs, with over 60% of employees coming from the local Danao community. Once fully operational, it is expected to support up to 800 jobs, providing sustained livelihood opportunities for the surrounding areas.

“The commissary is designed with safety as a core priority, integrating systems and standards that protect our employees and support a secure working environment. Team members also gain exposure to modern manufacturing and logistics practices, helping build transferable skills and long-term employability,” Ong added.

Jollibee Group Foundation Programs

Complementing these efforts are long-standing community programs of the Jollibee Group Foundation in Cebu and nearby areas, which reinforce the sustainability impact of the Danao Commissary. In Cebu, the Foundation operates Busog, Lusog, Talino (BLT) Central Kitchens, including two in Mandaue City and one in Danao, supporting the Department of Education’s School-Based Feeding Program by providing nutritious meals to undernourished public elementary school students. These kitchens help address child hunger while promoting food safety, efficiency, and community ownership.

From left, Gisela Tiongson, President, Jollibee Group Foundation; William Tan Untiong, Chief Business Officer, Jollibee Group, and Chairman, Jollibee Group Foundation (3rd from left); and Ernesto Tanmantiong, Global President and CEO, Jollibee Group (2nd from right), join volunteers in preparing meals at a Busog, Lusog, Talino (BLT) Central Kitchen in Mandaue, Cebu. The kitchen supports the Philippine Department of Education’s School-Based Feeding Program through safe, standardized meal preparation.

The Foundation also runs the Access, Curriculum, and Employability (ACE) Scholarship Program, which supports underprivileged youth in Cebu through technical-vocational and food service–related education. The program equips young people with industry-relevant skills and prepares them for employment, including opportunities within the food service and manufacturing sectors.

ACE scholars from Don Bosco Technical Vocational, supported by the Jollibee Group Foundation, pose with Jollibee Group leaders during the Danao Commissary inauguration in Cebu. The Access, Curriculum, and Employability (ACE) Scholarship Program equips underprivileged youth with industry-relevant skills to prepare them for employment opportunities.

Together, these initiatives reflect how the Jollibee Group integrates sustainability into both its operations and community engagement. Through its Joy for Tomorrow agenda, the Group designs facilities responsibly, manages resources efficiently, and operates safely, ensuring that growth strengthens the business while minimizing environmental impact.

By creating jobs, building skills, supporting nutrition and education, and prioritizing environmental stewardship, the Jollibee Group continues to scale with purpose—delivering long-term value for both the business and the communities it serves.

Jollibee employees from the Visayas volunteer as storytellers at Opao Elementary School in Mandaue, Cebu, using children’s books developed by Jollibee to support early literacy and values formation. The employee-led sessions reflect the Group’s commitment to education and community engagement.
A joyful moment as students interact with the Jollibee mascot during a feeding and storytelling activity supported by the Jollibee brand and the Jollibee Group Foundation at Opao Elementary School in Mandaue, Cebu. EAT YOUR WAY TO GOOD FORTUNE AT SM

As the Lunar New Year gallops into 2026, the Year of the Horse ushers in a spirit of energy, ambition, and forward motion. Beyond the vibrant reds, lanterns, and fireworks, Chinese New Year celebrations are deeply rooted in what is served at the table, where every dish carries a wish for prosperity, health, unity, and abundance.

This season, SM City Grand Central, SM Center Sangandaan, and SM City Valenzuela curate a flavorful journey through auspicious Chinese New Year favorites that blend time honored tradition with modern, accessible dining experiences.

Longevity Noodles for a Strong and Healthy Year

Noodles symbolize long life and good health in Chinese tradition. The long, uncut strands represent longevity, making them a must have dish during Lunar New Year celebrations. The belief is simple: the longer the noodles, the longer and healthier the life. Shoppers can enjoy Panda Express’ Chow Mein, a savory stir fried noodle dish mixed with fresh vegetables and seasoned with a soy based sauce. Panda Express is located at the second level of SM City Grand Central.

Dumplings That Symbolize Wealth and Prosperity

Dumplings are among the most popular lucky foods during Chinese New Year. Their shape resembles ancient Chinese gold and silver ingots, symbolizing wealth, success, and financial prosperity. Serving dumplings during the festivities is believed to invite good fortune for the year ahead. Welcome abundance in the Year of the Horse with Wangfu Chinese Café’s lucky dumplings, available at the fifth level of SM City Grand Central.

Spring Rolls for Golden Beginnings

Spring rolls are named after the Spring Festival and are associated with renewal and fresh starts. Their golden, crispy exterior represents gold bars, symbolizing wealth and success. Eating spring rolls also signifies letting go of the old and welcoming new opportunities, perfectly aligned with the energetic spirit of the Year of the Horse. Enjoy a modern take on this symbolic dish with Kuya J’s Lumpiang Quesadilla, available at SM City Valenzuela.

Whole Steamed Fish for Abundance and Unity

In Chinese culture, the word for fish sounds like the word for abundance. This makes fish an essential dish during Lunar New Year celebrations. Serving the fish whole, with head and tail intact, represents completeness, family unity, and prosperity from beginning to end. Families can share this meaningful dish with Mandarin Sky’s steamed lapu lapu, available at SM City Grand Central, making it an ideal centerpiece for New Year gatherings.

Tikoy for Growth, Harmony, and Sweet Success

Commonly known as nian gao, tikoy symbolizes growth in prosperity and success. Its sticky texture represents strong family bonds and the idea that good fortune stays throughout the year. Traditionally enjoyed as a sweet dessert, tikoy promises a sweet and harmonious year ahead. Find the perfect tikoy at SM Supermarket in SM Center Sangandaan, and explore other Chinese New Year favorites such as hopia and kiat kiat at SM Hypermarket in SM City Valenzuela.

As the Year of the Horse brings renewed energy and optimism in 2026, let meaningful food traditions guide your celebrations. Welcome the Lunar New Year with symbolic flavors, shared moments, and festive dining experiences at SM City Grand Central, SM Center Sangandaan, and SM City Valenzuela.

Converge to Student-Gamers: "Build Your Future Through Technology

Dennis Anthony Uy had a close session with the ten student ambassadors of the FiberX Student League, emphasizing that Filipino talent is needed in the country.

Converge ICT Solutions Inc. continues to sustain support for young Philippine gamers, particularly ‘model students’ in their own right, as it organized a recognition session recently and gave them the opportunity to gain meaningful insight from the CEO and Co-Founder of the company himself, Dennis Anthony Uy.

Ten exceptional student-gamers from Metro and Mega Manila gathered in the Converge Global Headquarters for an exclusive meet and greet with Uy himself. These ten youngsters were chosen through the Converge program called the FiberX Student League Ambassadors that was conducted throughout 2025.

“We laid the foundations for this ecosystem as far back as 2021, through sponsoring games first such as Dota 2 and PUBG Mobile, and then launching a product catering to gamers : the Converge GameChanger. To further strengthen support, last year, we were able to reach out to universities - as many as 60 schools - and mounted 13 roadshows. From as many as 100 student-gamers, we chose ten who have shown strength academically, in leadership, and of course those who are deep into their digital lifestyle. They are called ‘ambassadors’ because they are now the ambassadors for the gaming and esports lifestyle in their schools and carry a vital role of working with us and the community to uncover the real needs of gamers and the youth”, said Orange Ramirez, Vice President and Head of Brand and Marketing, during the event.

The CEO and Co-Founder of Converge lauded the student ambassadors for their passion for gaming and technology, encouraging them to stay active in their respective digital communities.

Uy, in a session with the ten student ambassadors, shared how he, in his youth also engaged in buying and selling games such as the likes of Pac-Man and Atari on analog consoles, and saw how gaming evolved to online and eventually mobile-capable games such as the ones developed by Tencent. Going beyond gaming, Uy sees the technology-enabled horizon as full of opportunities for digital natives, saying:

“With our digital infrastructure in place, we have enabled and continue to enable Filipinos to build their careers and livelihoods. Many young people have become content creators and have built their careers on Tiktok and other platforms. Philippine gamers can now compete globally and if you’re particularly innovative, you can launch your own start-up with the right digital tools. If you’re entrepreneurial, you can launch your own online business and having brick and mortar space is now entirely optional.”

“The future for the Philippines is bright because of you, our youth. The talent is incredible, you just need the right ecosystem to tap into your potential. For us at Converge, we can mentor you with our experts, bridge you with global tech companies, and give you the tools to create digital solutions that answer real problems,” ended Uy.

In 2025, Converge, in collaboration with the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) staged a competitive hackathon, called ‘Byte Forward’. This ran alongside PCCI’s regional business conferences held throughout 2025 in North Luzon, Visayas, National Capital Region, Mindanao, and South Luzon. In this nationwide hackathon, Converge and Rev21 engaged universities to tap their tech-savvy and digital-forward students for a competition that aimed to solve SMEs’ pain points using technology. The winning solutions targeted specific problems of SMEs ranging from inventory management to supply chain issues.

The FiberX Student League was culled from hundreds of applicants from Mega and Metro Manila over a ten-month period in 2025. These students were chosen with a holistic perspective: not just active gamers but strong academic achievers and leaders in their own right.

The “Chosen X” FiberX Student League Ambassadors are divided into two groups : the Golden X winners, which were flown to Thailand for an exposure trip to the country’s gaming community and industry, and the Battlestation Winners who had their gaming stations upgraded care of Converge. The student-gamers are attendees of universities in Metro and Mega Manila, from University of Asia and the Pacific, World Citi Colleges, New Era University, Technological University of the Philippines, among others.

Converge CEO Uy Advocates for Future-Proof Infrastructure, Praises Completed MACEA Underground Conduit Network

Converge CEO and Co-Founder Dennis Anthony Uy (left) with MACEA General Manager Getty E. Granada

Converge ICT Solutions Inc. CEO and Co-Founder Dennis Anthony Uy is championing the development of more forward-looking infrastructure across the Philippines, while commending the recently finished MACEA Underground Conduit Network (MUCN) spearheaded by the Makati Central Estate Association, Inc. (MaCEA).

During a recent meeting with MaCEA representatives, Uy emphasized that the underground network will serve as a sturdy foundational framework for telecommunications providers, while minimizing disruptions in the Makati Central Business District over the long term.

MaCEA – a civic organization representing property owners and developers in the district – led the MUCN initiative to align local infrastructure with global best practices. “The MACEA Underground Conduit Network establishes a reliable highway for telcos, drastically cutting down service interruptions caused by repeated repair work,” said MaCEA General Manager Getty E. Granada. “This shared underground pathway boosts network dependability and gives residents and building tenants access to multiple service providers, fully supporting Makati’s goal of becoming a smart, future-ready city.”

Underground conduit systems, already standard in advanced economies such as Singapore, offer significant advantages for power and telecom providers. By housing cables below ground, they enhance network resilience and enable more efficient installation, maintenance, and upgrades of lines.

Converge CEO Dennis Anthony Uy has called for expanded investment in future-proof national infrastructure, while applauding the MACEA Underground Conduit Network project. The completed system provides a robust structural backbone for telecommunications services in the Makati Central Business District.

Uy noted that Converge is actively backing efforts to improve efficiency across the telecommunications industry, and is a strong advocate for the “Dig Once” policy reinforced by the Konektadong Pinoy Act. “This approach benefits service providers, local governments, and cities alike,” he said. “The development of Makati’s underground conduit network is a welcome step, and we are eager to collaborate on similar initiatives.”

He highlighted that underground structures protect cables far more effectively than overhead lines, reducing the need for repairs that are often delayed by permitting processes with local authorities. “Unlike with power or water infrastructure, where repairs can proceed immediately, internet service providers frequently face delays,” Uy explained. “Underground conduits make cables less vulnerable to damage, ensuring more consistent and reliable connectivity for customers.”

Beyond improved reliability, the underground infrastructure lowers public safety risks, enhances urban aesthetics, and supports better city planning by optimizing the use of urban space – a clear advantage over aerial cable installations.

Uy also emphasized that Converge is well-equipped to deliver not just core connectivity, but a full suite of digital tools and services to empower building owners for the next phase of technological advancement. “Our philosophy is ‘Tech for Good’ – every aspect of our work, from connectivity to system integration and innovation, is designed to advance businesses and uplift communities,” he stated. “We are committed to ensuring MaCEA members lead not only in business excellence but also in building a more connected and empowered society.”

The MUCN was developed to create a unified raceway for all data providers operating in the Makati Central Business District, streamlining the deployment of telecommunications facilities across areas managed by MaCEA. The network includes dedicated ducts for member companies and spans 25.1 kilometers within MaCEA’s jurisdiction. Construction began in 2019 and was successfully completed in December 2024.

Fly In, Feast On: Erceflora Preps Sinulog Goers for What’s Ahead—Right at the Airport

Pinoys like to party, and there’s nothing like starting the year with one of the country’s most anticipated festivals: Sinulog. From early-morning flights to jam-packed itineraries, this Cebuano celebration draws thousands of revelers from all over the Philippines for a whirlwind of street dancing, food trips, reunions, and nonstop movement—exciting, yes, but also physically demanding.

Between travel stress, long days on your feet, and indulging in Cebu’s iconic lechon and street food, tummy troubles can easily crash the party. That’s why Erceflora steps in as the newest must-have in this year’s Cebu trip kit—helping festival-goers stay ready for all the fun, without worrying about gut problems getting in the way of the celebration.

Welcoming Festival goers the Erceflora Way

Sinulog starts the moment you land—and Erceflora is there to welcome you. As travelers arrive in Cebu, dispenser machines right at the airport invite festival-goers to grab free Erceflora samples and join in a fun activity that sets the tone for a worry-free celebration from day one.

And the experience doesn’t stop there. On January 17, drop by the Erceflora booth at SM Seaside Cebu to learn exactly when and how to use Erceflora—before food crawls, after late nights, or in between packed Sinulog schedules. With quick tips and free samples, gut care becomes an easy, essential part of your festival game plan.

Sinulog Realities: Food, Festivities, and Overindulgence

Sinulog isn’t exactly a “light meals and early nights” kind of festival. It’s lechon at every turn, irresistible street food, and celebrations that stretch well past midnight. Delicious? Absolutely. Gentle on the stomach? Not always. Add long walks, packed schedules, and travel fatigue, and it’s no surprise tummy troubles tend to sneak in.

That’s where Erceflora comes in. It helps you against overindulgence and unexpected gut emergencies. By helping prevent and manage stomach upsets, Erceflora keeps festival goers in the moment—free to dance, eat, and hop from one food crawl to the next without interruptions. It’s why Erceflora has become a trusted probiotic staple for travel, handaan, and every moment of vulnerability in between.

Turning Fiesta Moments into Worry-Free Celebrations

Fiestas are meant to be enjoyed, not paused for stomach trouble. With Erceflora helping prevent and manage gut upsets, festival-goers can stay focused on the fun—whether that means street dancing, hopping from one food crawl to the next, or powering through a full day of celebrations.

Erceflora Probiotics with billions of 4-strain Intelli-spores is for all ages above 6 months old. It aims to aid in the enhancement of natural resistance to intestinal infections, the enhancement of intestinal ecology, the improvement of digestion, and the improvement of lactose malabsorption.

Erceflora Gut Defense helps improve digestion with 2 billion Intelli-spores—especially during routine changes or travel. Erceflora Gut Restore delivers 4 billion Intelli-spores— one mini bottle per day for 7 days from the onset of gut infection symptoms or as directed by a physician.

Sinulog isn’t just about planning your outfit or your food stops anymore—it’s about being festival-ready inside and out. With Erceflora in the mix, gut care becomes part of the prep, redefining what it means to enjoy the celebration.

More than just a freebie, Erceflora proves itself as a thoughtful, practical companion for every Cebu trip. Because the best Sinulog memories are made when you celebrate to the fullest—minus the gut setbacks.

Converge Netflix Bundle: Bringing entertainment that fits the retirement lifestyle

Cesar and Vina Moresca from Daraga City, Albay.

As they embrace their golden years, Cesar and Vina Moresca of Daraga City, Albay, have discovered that reliable home connectivity brings added comfort, convenience, and enjoyment to their everyday life.

The couple lives a peaceful and undemanding retirement with their family. Vina keeps busy around the house and is actively serving at their church while Cesar, at 75 years old, often stays home; sometimes working on small home repairs.

While their typical day is dedicating the morning for chores like cleaning and cooking, their late afternoons, meanwhile, are reserved for relaxation and entertainment. The Morescas are avid sports enthusiasts, particularly volleyball and basketball. At night, they settle in their bedroom to watch Netflix, finding it a source of comfort after a busy day of chores around the house.

The ease of simply turning on the TV also makes the couple reflect on how entertainment used to be when watching a movie meant having to leave the house and go to the cinema. Now, with just a few clicks, their favorite shows and films are instantly available, which is something they appreciate as part of today’s technological advancements.

“Nagtiya-tiyaga kami noon kasi wala namang choice eh. Dati, lumalabas kami para manood ng sine pero ngayon, may Netflix na, nalilibang kami kahit nandito lang sa bahay,” Cesar said.

The fast and reliable internet service from Converge allows Cesar and Vina to seamlessly stay in touch with family and friends, and to stream their favorite games and movies without interruption.

The Morescas became first-time Converge subscribers years ago, initiated by their daughter who needed a seamless way to communicate after moving out of the country. “‘Yung anak namin ang nag-initiate niyan dahil sabi n’ya, ‘kailangan na natin ng internet.’ Ang ginawa niya, nag-apply siya ng Converge kasi sabi niya sa amin, mas maganda yung Converge kaysa sa ibang network,” Vina said.

After years of experiencing the robust and stable service of Converge, the family didn’t hesitate upgrading their plan after learning about the Converge Netflix Bundle last year, an internet solution that combines high-speed broadband with a Netflix subscription, and the hardware needed for seamless home entertainment.

The bundle includes a boosted FiberX plan, a Netflix subscription, a Wi-Fi 6 modem, and a Converge Xperience Box — an android TV-based streaming device — starting at ₱1,798 per month. It’s designed to deliver a smoother streaming experience while simplifying billing and setup for customers who want both reliable internet and access to Netflix’s vast library of movies and shows.

Since upgrading their plan, the family gets to enjoy the noticeable difference in service quality, especially when streaming volleyball games and movies. We just turn on our TV, nagre-relax kami,” Cesar added.

The consistent, uninterrupted service ensures they get the most out of their dedicated viewing time. The improved connection also helps with communication, as he mentioned they can now have uninterrupted calls, sometimes lasting two or three hours, to chat with family members away.

Cesar also noted that he has already recommended Converge to his friends, noting that the connection is clear and those who have tried it have not had any complaints. “Syempre, ‘pag walang interruption, satisfied ka. Walang putol, maganda, malinaw, maganda ang reception. ‘Yan ang masasabi namin sa Converge. Maganda yung service nila,” Cesar shared.

2026 Bataan Freedom March Returns to Honor the 84th Anniversary of Valor

Following the success of its 2025 run, the Philippine Veterans Bank, in partnership with the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) and the Department of National Defense (DND),, is proud to announce the return of the Freedom March slated on February 28 to March 1, 2026.

This is more than a walk; it is a profound journey of remembrance. Over two days, marchers including civilians, veterans' descendants, and members of the AFP—will retrace the historic 100+ kilometer route endured by Filipino and American soldiers during the infamous Bataan Death March of World War II.

Relatives of WWII heroes, military personnel and civilians join the 2025 Freedom March, a 160KM 2-day march from Mariveles, Bataan to Capas Tarlac

Relatives of WWII heroes, military personnel and civilians join the 2025 Freedom March, a 160KM 2-day march from Mariveles, Bataan to Capas Tarlac

“The Freedom March is an inclusive tribute open to everyone who wishes to honor the legacy of our heroes,” said PVB First Vice President Miguel Angelo C. Villa-Real. “Eighty-four years later, we carry their torch to ensure their sacrifice is never forgotten”.

The march is strategically divided into 10-kilometer segments, allowing participants to join for a single portion or commit to the entire historic trail:

On day 1, Feb 28, the tribute begins at the stroke of midnight (12:01 AM) at Kilometer Zero in Mariveles, Bataan, concluding the first major stretch at Dinalupihan by 7:00 PM.

On day 2 March 1, the march resumes at 1:00 AM. Marchers head toward San Fernando, Pampanga. The journey concludes with a closing ceremony at 6:00 PM at the Capas National Shrine—the hallowed ground of the former Camp O’Donnell.

Throughout the trek, participants will pass the Freedom March Guidon and torch, symbolizing a continuous flame of bravery passed from one generation to the next.

In honor of our veterans, participation in the Freedom March is free of charge. However, to ensure safety and coordination across the three involved provinces, advance registration is strictly required.

Whether you are a fitness enthusiast looking for a challenge, a history buff, or a patriot wishing to pay your respects, your presence helps keep the flame of valor alive.

The organizers are also inviting corporate leaders to join as Co-Presenters. Sponsors can maximize brand visibility at key stops every 10 kilometers and during the nationally recognized opening and closing programs.

Join us as we walk for those who could not. Register today and be part of this heartfelt, historic tribute. To register, visit https://www.facebook.com/veteransbankmarch, email pvbcares@veteransbank.com.ph or call the Bank’s Hotline (02) 7902-1782, Tollfree number: 1800-8902-1782 (Globe, Globelines, TM) or 1800-10-857-3888 (PLDT, Smart).

Morning Beats & Brews Energizes SM Mornings

Mornings at SM got a refreshing upgrade as Morning Beats & Brews turned the simple ritual of coffee into a vibrant lifestyle experience. Blending curated DJ sets with the comfort of a good brew, the event brought an upbeat yet relaxed rhythm to early mall hours, inviting shoppers to start their day with better energy and brighter mood.

With DJs setting the tone, music flowed seamlessly alongside the hum of morning activity. DJ Chocolate Kid energized SM City Grand Central with feel-good grooves, while DJ Charls brought a smooth, upbeat tempo to SM City Valenzuela. Over at SM Center Sangandaan, DJ SP spun vibrant tracks that transformed the morning atmosphere into something refreshingly celebratory. The music flowed seamlessly through café-lined spaces, creating a relaxed yet upbeat mood that encouraged people to linger, sip, and enjoy the moment.

Following the buzz generated by Morning Beats & Brews, SM also rolled out the Sip & Win Promo, adding excitement to every coffee run. Shoppers earn one e-raffle entry for every ₱500 spent at participating tenants, with a chance to win a Suzuki S-Presso GL MT. Running until April 10, the promo celebrates café culture and proves that even the simplest morning rituals can come with rewarding surprises.
