Converge teaches basic online protection to disenfranchised mothers, children

(From Left: Corporate Social Responsibility Manager Jennifer Ambanta-Realubit, Scam Watch PH Co-Convenor Joce De Guzman, and JK2L2 Area Sales Head Jericho Mamangun)

Converge lent a helping hand to the marginalized community being nurtured by the Clark Development Corporation (CDC), as the company recently taught practical skills to the group to protect themselves online coupled with a livelihood training program.

On May 22, 2025 Converge traveled to Bamban, Tarlac to teach 30 mothers and their children - all beneficiaries of the CDC’s Pagsasarili Program - about cyber protection and provide them with opportunities to earn additional income via the Converge prepaid fiber internet, Surf2Sawa. “Ang programa natin ngayon araw ay para sa mga nanay bilang May pa rin - Mother’s Day month - na gusto naming turuan paano protektahan sarili nila online lalo na’t laganap ang scams via text at internet,” said Jennifer Ambanta-Realubit, Converge Community Relations Manager.

Armin Rivera, Capacity Building Officer II of the Clark Development Corporation, elaborated that because of their socioeconomic status, these marginalized mothers can be particularly crippled by scams proliferated by insidious individuals. “Scams are rampant nowadays through text or emails. Ang target ng mga scams na ‘to include even the poor. The poor are especially vulnerable to them because of their desire to earn more to sustain their families. We are grateful to Converge for helping these nanays na mabuksan ang kamalayan to these scams and just say no to dubious offers of cash or opportunities rampant online,” said Rivera.

Scam Watch Pilipinas Co-Founder and Co-Lead Convenor Jocel de Guzman taught the Pagsasarili beneficiaries of the dangers of phishing scams amid the proliferation of e-wallets and digitized transactions. He enumerated several type of scams such as job scams, investment scams, loan scams, and love scams. Moreover, he advised the mothers to always doubt and double check the veracity of the person they're engaging with online. Especially when money or personal information is involved.

For the livelihood training, Jericho Mamangun of Converge MSP JK2L2 taught mothers to supplement their household income via the selling of Converge fiber prepaid, should they wish to do so.

Converge and CDC have been long-time partners, with Converge regularly conducting programs not just about cyber protection but even for community health and dental missions. As a key enabler of digitalization, Converge also supports the online education of the children of the Aeta community through the provision of connectivity and learning tablets.

Converge Appoints New COO, Reinforces Executive Team for Future-Ready Growth

2025 Annual Stockholders’ Meeting

Leading Philippine broadband and technology services provider Converge ICT Solutions Inc. announced key movements within its leadership team as it charts a future-forward direction focusing on long-term resilience and sustainable growth.

During the Board of Directors Organizational Meeting held on May 30, 2025 after the Annual Stockholders’ Meeting, Jesus “Boboy” C. Romero signified his desire to retire from the  Company as Chief Operations Officer after nine fruitful years of service. The Board of Directors unanimously approved Boboy’s retirement effective end of business day of June 30, 2025.

Converge CEO and Co-Founder Dennis Anthony Uy thanked Romero for his invaluable contributions to Converge, particularly his role in successfully translating the tremendous demand for fiber broadband faced by the company at the height of the pandemic into tangible gains.

“Boboy has seen us through the bold entry of Converge in the broadband market, to the hypergrowth years during the pandemic, and we are truly grateful. And now as we leap into the future, we look forward to continuing having Boboy as a supportive business partner,” Uy added.

The Board then appointed Benjamin Rex Emilio B. Azada as the new Chief Operations Officer effective July 1, 2025, to handle the reins of the overall operations of Converge.

2025 Annual Stockholders’ Meeting

“Converge is entering an exciting new era that will be defined by dynamic changes and innovations. We’ve made strategic adjustments to our management as we evolve into a technology company. We need this kind of focus for us to leap into the future with beyond-connectivity services and innovative solutions that leverage pivotal technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), internet of things (IoT), and cloud computing,” said Converge CEO and Co-Founder Dennis Anthony Uy.

“In line with this, we’re proud to put Benj, a trusted and seasoned executive whose talents have spanned the areas of Strategy, Sustainability, and Product Development, Sales and Marketing, to lead overall company operations,” said Converge CEO and Co-Founder Dennis Anthony Uy.

Azada finished his BS Industrial Engineering degree at the University of the Philippines, and earned his Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration (with Merit) from the University of Durham, in England. Prior to joining Converge, Azada was the Consulting Managing Principal and a Management Board member of PwC Philippines, and also a Partner of PwC’s South East Asia Consulting Practice.

After serving as Converge Chief Strategy Officer for almost four years, Azada was appointed Chief Commercial Officer early in 2024 and helped steer Converge to sustained growth with total revenues jumping almost 15% in 2024 compared to its year-ago level as the residential subscriber base increased by 20% to more than 2.5 million at the end of that year and now reaching over 2.7 million customers. Azada will relinquish commercial operations to capable hands directly supporting the company’s sales and marketing strategies, ensuring sustained business growth.

Azada, who was also Chief Sustainability Officer, will hand over his sustainability portfolio to Converge Corporate Compliance Officer Laurice Esteban-Tuason who was named as Corporate Sustainability Officer, concurrent with her position as Converge Corporate Compliance and Data Protection Officer.

Atty. Esteban-Tuason was recently lauded as the Best Data Privacy Officer (in the sector of General Management and Services) by the Philippines’ leading professional information security organization, the Information Security Officers Group (ISOG). She also recently completed her Master’s in Cybersecurity, With High Distinction, at the Asian Institute of Management.

Meanwhile, Converge Treasurer, Christine Renee Blabagno, has been appointed concurrently as Chief Risk Officer to focus on strategic risk management of Converge, especially with the changing business and social climate in the Philippines and the evolving broadband landscape. Christine Blabagno brings over 25 years of financial management to Converge, having been a financial leader and strategist for over 14 years at a telco company in various leadership positions, the last being Vice President of Consolidated Core Business Controllership. She is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Management Accountant with a professional diploma in Enterprise Risk Planning & Management from the National University of Singapore.

“With these changes in our leadership team, we are entering a new chapter—one that positions us more strategically for greater growth. By revamping the leadership bench while reinforcing our core values, we’re building the momentum needed to seize new opportunities and navigate the future as we transition to a techco,” said Converge President and Co-Founder Maria Grace Uy.

100+ Films & Still Surprising: Why ‘Arcadian’ Shines Bright in Nicolas Cage's Iconic Career

Just when you think you’ve seen it all, Nicolas Cage levels up again.

Nicolas Cage has truly made his mark in cinema, moving effortlessly between blockbuster action, indie dramas, and even quirky comedies. It seems there's nothing he can't do, and he proves this once again with Arcadian, a tense thriller set in a terrifying, monster-ridden future.

In Arcadian, the end of the world is just the beginning for Paul (Cage). Our first glimpse is of him in a desperate escape from what seems to be the end of civilization, carrying his two infant boys with him. Fifteen years later, Paul and his now teenage sons Thomas (Maxwell Jenkins) and Joseph (Jaeden Martell), live a meager existence on a remote farm. By day, they scavenge for resources and strengthen their defense, but nightfall brings a relentless onslaught from bloodthirsty photophobic monsters.

When Thomas ventures out after dark, a series of events unfolds that shatters their fragile safety. The family must then band together, using their wits and limited resources to confront not only the nightly terrors but also the tensions and secrets that threaten to tear them apart.

Directed by Benjamin Brewer, Arcadian throws you into a terrifying world of creature horror, but its heart lies in the fierce bonds of family. As Paul, Cage delivers a grounded performance as a father willing to go to great lengths to protect his sons in an unrecognizable world. Cage brings emotional depth to the role, reminding audiences why he's one of the most versatile actors of his generation.

In an interview with Collider, Nicholas Cage explained how the film's merging of his two favorite genres and its reflection of his own family dynamics fueled his interest in working on it: “It's very simple really. Two of my favorite genres, independently spirited family drama, you know, grew up watching East of Eden, Kazan, Ordinary People, Redford, and then science fiction horror in that category, in this case particularly specifically science fiction. If you mash those two and the...the dynamic of the family, which is a father and two boys, which is largely what my family dynamic was, because sadly my mother couldn't be around as much as we would have liked her to have been around. So my father did all the heavy lifting, so I wanted to tell a story about that family dynamic and then mash it up with science fiction and see what we could come up with, and I'm happy with these results.”

Explosive thrills and deadly creatures ... .This May 30, survival is the only rule. Watch Arcadian on Lionsgate Play.

SM Bulacan Malls Celebrate National Flag Day, Usher in “Season of Patriotism” Until June 12

The tricolor Philippine flag unfurls proudly at SM City Marilao today, marking the start of its National Flag Day observance and ushering in a week-long lineup of events leading up to June 12 to inspire renewed patriotism across the community.

With flags raised and hearts full of pride, SM malls across Bulacan joined the country in commemorating National Flag Day on May 28 — a meaningful start to the two-week countdown to Philippine Independence Day on June 12.

At exactly 8:00 a.m., simultaneous flag-raising ceremonies were held at SM City Marilao, SM City Baliwag, and SM Center Pulilan. The morning observance gathered mall employees, partner agencies, tenants, and security personnel in a unified tribute to the Philippine flag — the enduring symbol of the country’s freedom, unity, and identity. Shoppers and guests also paused to reflect on the flag’s legacy and meaning.

The activity kicks off a nationwide tradition encouraging Filipinos to proudly display the national flag in homes, workplaces, and establishments — a practice rooted in Presidential Proclamation No. 374, which marks May 28 as National Flag Day. The date honors the first unfurling of the Philippine flag in 1898 following the victorious Battle of Alapan.

The tricolor Philippine flag unfurls proudly at SM City Marilao today, marking the start of its National Flag Day observance and ushering in a week-long lineup of events leading up to June 12 to inspire renewed patriotism across the community.

After the singing of the national anthem, SM mall officials and security teams led the “Panunumpa sa Watawat ng Pilipinas,” reaffirming their patriotic commitment and encouraging civic pride among mallgoers and staff.

In the days leading up to June 12, SM malls in Bulacan will mount a variety of educational exhibits and interactive activities designed to promote historical awareness and foster national pride, particularly among the youth.

This initiative is in line with Executive Order No. 179 issued by former President Fidel V. Ramos, which extends the observance of National Flag Day through Independence Day — urging every Filipino to honor the nation’s heritage and renew their love for country.

SM Bulacan malls’ participation underscores their role not only as shopping destinations but also as pillars of community engagement and cultural expression. Through these civic efforts, SM continues to inspire unity, patriotism, and a deeper connection to the Filipino identity.

Converge Netflix Bundle: Stream Smarter, Live Better with All-in-One Connectivity and Entertainment

Converge Netflix Bundle is a connectivity and entertainment solution featuring a boosted FiberX plan with 325 Mbps speeds, a Netflix subscription, a WiFi-6 Next Gen Modem, and an Android TV box called Converge Xperience Box, all put together in a single plan.

A defining feature of over-the-top (OTT) services, such as Netflix, is allowing users to binge-watch shows at their convenience. With an extensive library of movies and series, these services cater to every individual’s on-demand streaming needs, especially for those who have a lot on their plate at home, work, and school.

This convenience is precisely why Kapampangan journalist Albert Lacanlale finds Netflix particularly appealing. As the operations head of SunStar Pampanga and a broadcaster for  RW 95.1 FM, Lacanlale's demanding routine leaves him little time to watch scheduled programs on regular cable TV.

Fortunately, Netflix now allows him to stream movies and shows whenever it suits him.

“Back then, with regular cable channels, you had to wait every week for new episodes. Now, everything’s complete. When I have time, I can watch several episodes in one sitting. You couldn’t do that before. If you missed an episode, that’s it. But with Netflix, you can go back, rewatch anytime, and even replay certain parts,” he shared.

Recently, Lacanlale discovered the Converge Netflix Bundle, an internet subscription plan that combines enhanced internet connectivity with seamless streaming through Netflix.

It is a connectivity and entertainment solution that features a boosted FiberX plan with 325 Mbps speeds, a Netflix subscription, a WiFi-6 Next Gen Modem, and an Android TV box called Converge Xperience Box, all put together in a single plan.

Albert Lacanlale, Operations Head of SunStar Pampanga.

“Since I’m working on the radio, one time I had guests from Converge promoting the new product, the Converge Netflix Bundle. That was the first time I heard about it. That time, I had two different plans I pay separately every month – a Netflix account and my internet subscription. I thought, “Why don’t I just try it here instead?”” Lacanlale said.

He appreciates the ease brought by having his Netflix account tied with his internet plan, which eliminates the extra work of renewing two separate subscriptions monthly.

Additionally, the upgraded internet speed easily accommodates the family's daily connectivity needs, whether it’s supporting their CCTV cameras at home, or enabling their daily binge.

“For someone working in media, I always need an internet connection when I'm writing. And when I’m not at home, I need to monitor what’s happening there through our CCTV. I have Netflix on my phone when I want to watch privately but when watching with the family, we use the TV. My kids also share the account with me. So with this bundle, all of us are connected to Netflix and our internet is still fast.”

He also expressed satisfaction with the Converge Xperience Box, which they set up in the living area to entertain guests with its wide array of channels.

“This Converge Netflix Bundle is highly recommended, and I would definitely recommend it to my friends,” he said.

Together for Our Oceans: June 7 Coastal Cleanup

Students actively participate in coastal cleanup drive, reinforcing their role as environmental stewards and contributing to the preservation of marine ecosystems.

In celebration of World Oceans Day 2025, SM Cares, the corporate social responsibility arm of SM Supermalls, will once again mobilize thousands of volunteers across the country for its annual Coastal Cleanup Drive, set for June 7, 2025. This year’s theme, “WONDER: Sustaining What Sustains Us,” serves as a powerful reminder of the oceans’ role in supporting life—and our shared responsibility to protect them.

Held simultaneously in multiple coastal locations nationwide, the initiative is organized in partnership with local government units, environmental organizations, NGOs, community groups, SM employees, security and janitorial personnel, and affiliates. It is part of SM’s broader environmental commitment through the #SMWasteFreeFuture campaign, which also includes year-round plastic waste reduction efforts, recycling markets, and e-waste disposal drives.

In addition to the weekly cleanups already taking place at SM by the Bay, the World Oceans Day event marks one of three major coastal cleanups planned by SM Cares for 2025.

Students from NU Nazareth School take action for a cleaner coastline during coastal cleanup drive at SM by the BAY.

Employees carry sacks of collected waste during a coastal cleanup activity, underscoring their active role in advancing environmental protection through the company’s coastal cleanup initiative.

Through active participation in the coastal cleanup, employees demonstrate a shared commitment to environmental initiatives and fostering a culture of collective responsibility.

“As part of our commitment to the environment, we believe in community action to protect our oceans and waterways. Ultimately, we want to raise overall awareness on marine pollution, contribute to preserving biodiversity, and help in inspiring responsible waste management practices among Filipinos. The World Oceans Day Coastal Cleanup is more than just a one-day event—it’s part of our ongoing pledge to build a better, cleaner world,” said Engr. Liza Silerio, SM Cares Program Director for the Environment.

I Was There When Hope Turned Into Action

Last May 26, I attended something truly inspiring—the Generation HOPE launch at Samsung Hall, SM Aura. And honestly, it gave me a whole new perspective on how simple everyday choices can help solve something as big as our country’s classroom shortage.

It wasn’t just an event—it was a movement. HOPE, the organization behind those bottled waters that help build schools, teamed up with the Department of Education and some of the Philippines’ most loved brands—BDO, Carmen’s Best, Grab, Penshoppe, Aivee Clinic, SM Supermalls, and Sunnies—to launch Generation HOPE.

The mission? To make it easier for people like you and me to help build real classrooms for Filipino kids—just by doing the things we already do every day. Shopping, eating ice cream, ordering online, using rewards points—yes, even those can help now.

What struck me the most was something HOPE Founder Nanette Medved-Po said on stage:

"In a world that’s so divided, let’s come together for something we all believe in: giving kids a better future through education."

And I saw that unity firsthand—government leaders, brand partners, educators, and everyday Filipinos, all standing together for one goal.

Here’s how you can be part of it too:

Use BDO’s new “HOPE in Every Spend” credit card—part of your spending goes directly to building classrooms.

Try Carmen’s Best Hope in a Scoop and Hope in a Pint (delicious and impactful!).

Donate GrabRewards points through the app.

Grab a limited-edition Aivee x HOPE bag or skin card.

Shop Penshoppe’s HOPE-themed clothes and accessories.

Buy SM-branded water bottles—part of sales will help fund schools.

Pick up Sunnies’ new HOPE lens kit or flask.

Each of these brands found their own creative way to let YOU give hope with every purchase. And every single peso adds up to something powerful: real classrooms, for real kids, in real communities that need them.

So yes—I was there. I saw it start.

But this is our movement now. You don’t need to be at an event to take part. All you have to do is choose HOPE in your everyday life.

KWIK Joins the Fight Against Dengue in Quezon City

Barangay Commonwealth council member and representatives receives KWIK Multi-Insect Killer to support the barangay’s dengue prevention efforts.

KWIK Multi-Insect Killer champions community engagement and education in response to the rising dengue cases in the city.

As Quezon City faces an alarming surge in dengue cases, KWIK Multi-Insect Killer took swift and proactive action to help protect communities through a localized education campaign and door-to-door product distribution in Barangay Commonwealth, Quezon City. This initiative is part of KWIK's broader campaign to safeguard Filipino homes against dengue mosquitoes through planned outreach in 12 barangays across Pasay, Paranaque, Mandaluyong, and additional areas in Quezon City—reflecting its continuing commitment to large-scale awareness and effective prevention.

Local authorities have recently declared a dengue outbreak in the city due to a staggering 283% increase in reported cases compared to last year. According to the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Division (CESD), Quezon City recorded 1,769 dengue cases between January 1 and February 14, 2025—a nearly 200% spike year-on-year—with at least 10 confirmed deaths.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the KWIK team mobilized to bring critical dengue-related information drive directly to households. Partnering with barangay officials in Barangay Commonwealth, they conducted educational sessions on how dengue spreads, early symptoms to watch for, and actionable prevention tips. Residents were also guided on how to maintain a mosquito-free home environment and were equipped with KWIK insecticide products as a practical line of defense. The same information drive was carried out in the 11 other selected barangays as well.

For Consumer Care Products Incorporated Product Manager Catherine Perez, the fight against dengue is a comprehensive effort to reach high-risk areas and build a wide-reaching campaign focused on education and prevention.

“This initiative in Barangay Commonwealth is just one step in a broader campaign that spans multiple cities in Metro Manila. We believe that by empowering communities with knowledge and providing accessible solutions, we can make a meaningful impact in the fight against this disease,” said Perez.

The barangay-based education also emphasized how mosquitoes continue to breed in stagnant water, found in old tires, clogged gutters, and uncovered containers, making community awareness and individual action essential. The session also covered early warning signs of dengue, such as high fever, severe headache, muscle and joint pain, and skin rashes, encouraging residents to seek early medical attention if symptoms appear.

“Through knowledge sharing and community engagement, we believe we can turn the situation against dengue. But prevention must start at home—and with the right tools like KWIK, every Filipino family can actively protect themselves,” Perez added.

The initiative was warmly received by local residents and officials, who expressed appreciation for the timely intervention. With more summer months ahead, KWIK aims to expand its outreach efforts to other high-risk communities across Pasay, Paranaque, Mandaluyong, and Quezon City to reinforce the message: Basta KWIK, Tapos ang Kalaban, an insect killer tested to be proven against mosquitoes, housefly, and cockroaches - helping safeguard communities from common insect-borne illnesses.

KWIK Multi-Insect Killer Blue Variant (water-based) is available at a suggested retail price of PhP162.80 for 300ml, PhP239.50 for 500ml, and PhP281.00 for 600ml per can and can be purchased at leading supermarkets nationwide, as well as online shops like CCPI Shop,  Lazada and Shopee.

For more information on KWIK’s products and upcoming community programs, visit KWIKs  Facebook page.

Converge looks to AI, power of data to drive product development, customer experience

Spearheading the digital transformation of back-end and front-end processes of Converge, Eugene Yeo, actively explores the latest tools and software powered by data-driven intelligence that will result in greater business efficiency.

Customer behavior has always been a ‘blackbox’ of sorts and this dilemma often leads to misguided decisions operationally for businesses; as a leading broadband and technology company, Converge is aiming to demystify customer wants and needs and is now taking the opportunity to do so with automation and cutting-edge AI tools.

While far from being a stranger to business insight tools, Converge is taking a big leap in leveraging data-driven intelligence - in the name of elevating customer experience - with the use of Tableau, Salesforce’s agentic analytics platform.

Converge Chief Executive Advisor Eugene Yeo meets with Tableau CEO Ryan Aytay at the #TC25, or Tableau Conference 2025 held in San Diego, California.

With AI deeply embedded in this platform, the data-to-action workflow of Converge is accelerated, turning insights into actionable tasks easily and the streamlining analysis-to-insight process.

“For a company like Converge, whose customer base is now at 2.6 million and continuously expanding, we cannot afford to have scattered sources of information about our customers, and definitely cannot afford not to take advantage of market intelligence tools. This has been one of my primary tasks at Converge and I’m happy that now our customer behavior monitoring has been streamlined in just one platform,” said Converge Chief Executive Advisor Eugene Yeo.

Yeo was recently appointed to the Tableau Advisory Board, a multi-stakeholder group consisting of key personalities from media, technology, publishing, banking and communications around the world, offering a balanced mix of expertise and perspectives.

Yeo sits down with Edward Beaurain, RVP for Sales Excellence at Salesforce to talk about the analytics journey of Converge to glean insights from the Tableau platform on Salesforce+.

Tableau, which  was acquired by Salesforce in 2019, has continued to invest in its AI capabilities – most recently announcing updates to its agentic AI solution Tableau Next.

With the arduous task of data cleanup now mostly done, Yeo said the next step is maximizing Tableau to guide decision-making of company executives down to the front-liners, the MSPs (managed service partners) of Converge.

“Our MSPs are our representatives around the country; they manage selling our products in specific regions and we want to empower them to make use of this data insight tool to inform them of what exactly is going on in their market - are their subscribers having difficulty paying? Are the right products reaching them? These are the kind of customer needs that will be made clear once they use the tool,” noted Yeo, adding that this is crucial now that Converge is transitioning from telco to techco.

Emphasizing the need to produce trustworthy customer data from which to base operational decisions, Yeo said the training of MSPs and executives in Converge is the priority. The Tableau Advisory Board, which includes members from prominent institutions was created back in 2011 for Tableau to gain strategic advice, market perspective, and industry insight from experts around the world.

“One of the benefits of being part of the council is peer to peer sharing of best practices from global companies. As the world continues to move towards embedding AI into opportunities, it's a great opportunity to check if we are on the right track,” ended Yeo.
