Discover your kids' digital artistic skills with Basecamp’s ‘Creativity Camp’ workshop series

Kids and teens nowadays exhibit remarkable proficiency in digital technology. Their natural adaptability and early exposure to screens significantly contribute to their digital fluency. To nurture their skills further, Power Mac Center (PMC), through its official training arm Basecamp, has launched Creativity Camp: Workshop for Kids & Teens

The primary goal of the program is to empower young learners and foster their digital creativity and critical thinking skills. Creativity Camp provides engaging and age-appropriate digital courses covering topics such as digital art, calligraphy, coding, 3D design, and graphic design, as well as non-digital courses focused on painting and drawing. These training sessions are scheduled to commence in April and continue until July, welcoming children aged 6 to 15.

“Basecamp blends digital and non-digital skills, offering valuable educational experiences for kids and teens during their school break. Whether they’re delving into coding, creating digital art, or honing their painting and drawing techniques, these workshops cultivate a diverse learning environment. We invite parents to enroll their kids and teenagers in any of our workshops to not only enhance their technical abilities but also deepen their appreciation for creativity and self-expression,” said Maleng Raysag, Basecamp’s head.

Artistry Unleashed: iPad Edition

Young creators will embark on an exhilarating journey into the world of digital art using iPads. Unleash your kid’s artistic potential with the “Draw and Share on iPad” course. This program enables kids and teens to make digital art and craft impactful posters with meaningful messages. Meanwhile, “Calligraphy on iPad” will help young artists refine their handwriting skills so they can merge calligraphy’s timeless elegance with modern technology.

Does your grade schooler enjoy discovering new apps? Why not teach them to code their own? “Code and Play with Hopscotch on iPad” is an engaging workshop tailored for young learners, allowing them to have fun while honing essential coding abilities.

Honing digital skills using Mac

Creativity Camp also offers “3D Art on Mac,” allowing kids and teens to transform their ideas into 3D masterpieces. By the end of the sessions, they will have developed the discipline and expertise to produce remarkable three-dimensional visuals.

Explore the realm of graphic design with the “Canva Graphics on Mac” program. Whether your kid is creating for educational endeavors or personal projects, this workshop ensures that the design process is both captivating and enjoyable. Enroll your teen in the “Code and Create on Mac” workshop and watch them learn to spearhead their own coding projects.

Non-digital prowess

If your kids yearn for a more traditional and hands-on creative experience, look no further than Creativity Camp. Basecamp offers two exciting workshops that will spark your child’s imagination.

Kids can enroll in the “Coffee Painting” workshop, where they’ll explore their artistic side using this unconventional and eco-friendly medium. As they create, they’ll be enveloped in the rich aromas of coffee, adding an extra layer of sensory delight to their artistic journey.

Meanwhile, the “3D Pen Magic” program employs seemingly magical pens to transform kids’ two-dimensional drawings into cool, original three-dimensional objects.

Creativity Camp courses are priced at P5,500 per student per course. Each course spans four days, with two-hour sessions each day. Additionally, Basecamp also offers a package deal priced at P15,000 per student, which includes any three courses, with a total duration of 12 days, maintaining the same two-hour sessions each day. Visit <https://powermaccenter.com/pages/creativity-camp> for the full schedule.

Reservation is on a first-come, first-served basis. Parents need to fill out the online registration form and make a payment via bank deposit. Boost your kids’ digital, creative skills with Basecamp's Design Trail

Vision Hub for teens and young adults also available all year long

Kids today are considered as digital natives, making them more perceptive to developments in technology. But as it becomes even more advanced and fast-paced, it must be a challenge to catch up, especially if you are a busy parent. This is where Basecamp, Power Mac Center (PMC)’s official training provider, can step in.

Armed with a mission to equip kids, teens, and young adults with the digital skills critical in today’s modern world, Basecamp’s “Design Trail” and “Vision Hub” workshop series offer fun and age-appropriate digital courses on animation, game design, web design, video editing, and app development. Design Trail for Kids also has non-digital courses on drawing, painting, and science experiments. Enrollees in the Visayas and Mindanao region will also be provided with modules written in Cebuano. Courses will start on April 11, 2023 and will be ongoing all year long.

Parents always want the best for their kids, and Basecamp is here to help them provide the best digital learning experience. Just like a real base camp, we serve as a storehouse of food for the imagination and equipment needed by kids to survive the digital wilderness and, figuratively speaking, to scale the mountains ahead. Our courses are conducted by expert mentors who can readily address kids’ natural inquisitiveness and ensure their holistic development,” said Maleng Raysag, Basecamp Head.

Basecamp prepares youngsters to be the Philippines’ future animation artists, programmers, and filmmakers. It harnesses the power of Apple technology and equips workshop participants with the knowledge, skills, and aptitude to succeed in their chosen path or simply enjoy exploring their talents and interests. In particular, they can improve the following skills:

Storytelling with iPad

Kids who love telling tales will learn to express their ideas through comics brought to life by technology after completing the Design Trail courses “The Art of Comics” and “2D Animation using iPad.” Designed for those aged 7-10 years old, these courses will strengthen their visual communication skills through creating new characters from basic lines, shapes, and colors.

Older teens and young adults aged 16-21 years old, meanwhile, can enroll in Vision Hub’s “3D Creation and Animation for Beginners,” which takes it to the next level through animation techniques and software tools actually used in the industry.

Programming and STEM skills

Today, everything is run by technology, which means that we will need more programmers in the foreseeable future. If your child is constantly immersed in game platforms such as Roblox and Minecraft, might as well get them a more structured training course that can teach them how to build their own Roblox game and publish it on Roblox Studio. They can also familiarize themselves with Minecraft for Education, which is a great tool for learning that builds science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) skills, unleashes creativity, and engages students in collaboration and problem-solving.

Kids can learn the discipline involved in creating their own games through various software and programming languages, while teens and young adults can hone their skills in web design, video editing, and app development. These digital courses are conducted either online or face- to-face and available year-round so your kids can fit them in their free time.

Non-digital skills

Design Trail for Kids also offers courses designed to develop analog skills such as drawing, painting, printmaking, and manga-creation. In addition, young scientists are invited to discover scientific concepts through hands-on activities and inquiry-based learning.

These non-digital courses are conducted exclusively in person, in order to increase children’s appreciation for the value of hands-on work and imagination. The Basecamp training center is located at 3/L Glorietta 5, Ayala Center, Makati City.

Design Trail classes are conducted in the course of 4 days, for 1.5hours each session. Digital courses are priced at P2,500 per student per course for online sessions, and P3,000 for face-to-face classes. Non-digital courses can be availed at P3,000 each. Vision Hub’s online courses are priced at P5,500 per head, per course, conducted over 5 days per course, for 15 hours in total.

For the full list of classes, schedules, and other details, visit Design Trail at https://bit.ly/3ZqS7FI and Vision Hub at https://bit.ly/40pLiWf.

Medical Experts to Share Knowledge at Mom and Baby Expo this April 2017

With just a few weeks away, moms and moms-to-be are all geared up for the first ever Mom and Baby Expo happening this April.  Organized by the Perinatal Association of the Philippines (PAP), the exhibit showcases all facets of comprehensive perinatal healthcare such as products, services, technology and new methods, all of which are intended in aiding Filipina mothers and their babies.

One of the highlights of the Mom and Baby Expo 2017 will be a series of talks from perinatal experts pertaining to maternal-fetal and newborn topics.

Some of the topics to be discussed during the event are tips on how to get pregnant; vaccines needed for expecting moms as well as their babies; exercise and proper nutrition for a healthy pregnancy; preconception tests and Breastfeeding Pearls Exercise. Other topics include skin care protection for women who are conceiving; importance of prenatals; and ways to safeguard against diseases like vaginal infection, UTI and STDs.

PAP President Dra. Belen Velasco notes the relevance of taking time to listen to the experts during the talks. She explains: “Our objective is simple yet powerful: to impart advices and traverse new ideas moms and expectant moms can use that will ultimately strengthen their maternal bond with their babies”.

For his part, PAP President Dr. Diosdado Mariano says “The Expo is an opportunity to analyze and seek solutions to existing issues pertaining to maternal-fetal and newborn areas in an engaging and fun way.”

The Mom and Baby Expo 2017 will also showcase pocket workshops, fun and informative activities, selling booths, food stalls and raffle prizes.

The Mom and Baby Expo 2017 will be held on April 21-23 at the SM Megamall Megatrade Halls 2 and 3.
