Women, love yourselves more!

Renowned psychoneurologist and happiness doctor Lia Bernardo enumerates five easy tips on how women can live a happier, unapologetic life.

You can’t love others if you don’t truly love yourself. This is something we've heard since we were little. But loving one's self doesn’t happen overnight.

Renowned psychoneurologist and happiness doctor Lia Bernardo says that self-love is a daily process of accepting yourself completely by living a genuine, unapologetic life. Here are some tips from Dr. Bernardo on how women can love themselves even more:

1. Break the cycle by starting within. You can’t tell people how to act but you can control how you think or feel about situations. It is better to see the bright side or to let go. Don’t give anyone the power over you – this is what true empowerment is.

2. Know that you are beautiful. See yourself as whole – complete. All you need to do is face the camera inwards and like who you are. For days when you need a confidence booster, check out SM's beauty section to get special deals on skincare and beauty bundles.

3. Be proactive. If you are sad, always remember that everything, including happiness, is your choice. Discover what makes you happy and take steps to incorporate them in your daily routine. Happiness is more about the journey, not the destination.

4. Take care of yourself. It is important to practice self-care in all aspects of your life -- physically, mentally, and emotionally. Indulge in self-care with the Women’s Special at SM this March and avail of beauty and wellness deals from select spas and salons.

5. Accept yourself. Once you’ve learned to accept and acknowledge who you really, are, all that self-doubt goes out the window. Take the time to get to know your individuality because whatever you think, you believe. Whatever you believe becomes your behavior. Revisit your belief, so you can improve your life today.

Ladies, celebrate self-love this Women’s Month at SM! Get fabulous finds such as fashion, accessories, make-up and skin care up to 70% off during SM’s Women’s Wednesday Sale the entire month of March.

“With a little bit of self love, anyone can change their life. At SM, we want women to make themselves a priority by letting them indulge in various pampering activities so they can be the best version of themselves,” said SM Supermalls senior vice president Jonjon San Agustin.

Rebisco’s Topps Sarap is looking for the next batch of Toppstars

Is your child the next big TV star?

This is your kids’ chance to star in their own TV show

Topps Sarap, a favorite cupcake brand from Rebisco, is once again looking for a new breed of talented Filipino kids via the Topps Sarap Toppstar talent search.

Started in 2016, Topps Sarap Toppstar was created as a platform to discover young Filipino talents and celebrate the “topps” factor in each kid. Parents are encouraged to showcase their kids’ talents in singing, dancing, or acting by having them join the nationwide talent search.

Winners of the talent search receive the ultimate prize—a chance to audition for TOPPSTAR TV.

Airing weekends on GMA 7 and GMA News TV, each half-an-hour episode features performances from the kids, interviews with celebrity guests, unboxing videos, comedic bits, Pinoy games, and product reviews. Viewers also get a chance to join in on the fun through interactive activity bumpers.

Journey to stardom

The talent contest is open to all kids from anywhere in the Philippines, aged four to 10 years old. To join, parents or guardians must create a maximum 30-second video showing their child’s chosen talent. Videos must be uploaded on the entrant’s Facebook account and must tag or mention Topps Sarap.

Once video has been posted, the link of the post must be copied and included in the entry form, which can be downloaded here: http://www.toppstar2019.com/

Participants can submit another entry 24 hours after the first submission. The last submission received will be considered the final entry to be judged. A confirmation e-mail will be sent within two to three days of submission. Entries will be accepted until 11:59PM on March 31, 2019.

From all the valid entries, the top 50 will be chosen based on talent and performance (50%); star quality (45%); and online votes (5%).

An online voting will be held from April 5 to 7, 2019, 11:00 AM. A special award will be given to four entries with the highest number of votes, with one each from Luzon, Greater Manila Area, Visayas, and Mindanao.

The top 50 will undergo a talent workshop-audition which will determine the top 25 who will advance to the final stage. The top 25 will compete in the Grand Finals on May 5, 2019. The final 10 Topps Sarap Toppstar winners will be announced on this event.

Each winner will receive P50,000 in cash and will be featured in the Topps Sarap Facebook page. They will also participate in talent workshops and a chance to audition for TOPPSTAR TV’s next season.

Landlite Lighting Designs and Trends for 2019

Are you looking for a good quality lighting fixtures that is eco-friendly, multifunctional and sustainable? Look no further as Landlite Philippines Corporation (LPC), a leading distributor of lighting fixtures and solutions in the country disclosed the key lighting design trends to look forward to this 2019 as it gathered members of the media, industry partners, and their top clients at the sleek LuxDecor showroom in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

Landlite Lighting Designs and Trends for 2019

During the event, LPC also presented its new brand ambassador top host and celebrity Marc Nelson who will appear in the company’s marketing campaigns and share news about LPC products and industry insights.

Below are the key lighting trends for 2019:

 ✔ Eco-lighting
As the world becomes more conscious about the environment particularly in the reduction of waste and the promotion of recycling, lighting products are also responding to this call.

The Hook - Landlite Lighting Designs and Trends for 2019

The Hook portable eco-lamp for one, designed by OiKo Design Office for Faro Barcelona, has been optimized for all stages of their life cycle, reducing the environmental impact between 30 percent and 70 percent. Free of harmful PVC, a harmful material present in most wires and plugs, the housings of The Hook portable eco-lamp are also made entirely of recycled plastic.

✔ Human-centric
Another lighting trend that is fast gaining traction is human-centric design. Proponents of this movement say that CCT shifting, which refers to the correlated color temperature of LED bulbs, can help regulate circadian rhythms, moods, visual acuity and one’s performance.

Towards this end, Bohman&Folenius created the Inviting Light for home lighting, whose main characteristic is how the light moves to accompany you according to your different needs and moods. The head of the lamp adjusts both in its horizontal and vertical axis, while regulating light intensity, changes in color temperature, and also has a dimmable feature.

Its various versions—table, wall or clip—allow for multiple  locations, such as shelving units, headboards, study and work desks, as well as in the kitchen.

✔ Multi-functional
Consumers of today now also seek out lighting solutions that can replace multiple pieces of equipment, in their desire for value for money as well as space-saving needs especially for those who reside in condominium units.

NIKO by Nahtrang - Landlite Lighting Designs
and Trends for 2019

Thus, the stylish NIKO by Nahtrang—a homage to scientist and inventor Nikolai Tesla—was borne, which is actually two objects in one: a lamp and mobile charger, with a surface on which we can charge our smartphone without cables getting in the way. With its Nordic design with dual functionality, NIKO is perfect for illuminating bedrooms and living rooms, and is a good choice for hotels.

✔ Mobility
Another interesting trend coming to the fore is mobility in lighting products, which is a response to those who are more outdoorsy in nature. The Take-Away lamp designed by Nahtrang addresses this need, taking inspiration from lanterns coupled with the versatility of Japanese ceramic bowls: small, light, cable-free, and nomadic—allowing it to be placed anywhere.

Autism Spectrum Disorder FAQs

FAQs on Autism

💚 What is Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)?

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is an atypical neural development of the brain, and starts from early infancy. It is not a psychological condition.

ASD is a lifelong developmental condition that affects how a person communicates with, and relates to, other people. It is also characterized by repetitive motor movements, inflexible adherence to routines, ritualized patterns of behavior, fixations, hyper-or hypo-reactivity to sensory input. People with autism may also experience over- or under-sensitivity to sounds, touch, tastes, smells, light or colors.

Since the rbain processes what is seen, heard, touched, tasted, smelled differently, the person with ASD perceives and reacts to his environment in a manner unique to neurotypical people. ASD may occur with other conditions such as attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (AD/HD), Down
Syndrome, cerebral palsy, intellectual disabilities, among others.

ASD is a spectrum condition, which means that, while all people with autism share certain difficulties, their autism will affect them in different ways. Many people with autism are able to live relatively independent lives but others may have accompanying challenges that require a lifetime of specialist support.

💚 How can we detect or prevent autism?

The cause of autism is still unknown; but scientific research suggests it is a combination of genetic and environmental factors.

Autism is not detected at birth and as yet, no physical test will detect ASD. A child can be diagnosed with autism before the age of 3 years, by observing their behavior.

💚 How can people tell when a person has autism?

Licensed developmental pediatricians, neurologists and clinical psychologists may be consulted to assess whether a person has autism. An individual with autism manifests the dyad of impairments -- impairment in social interaction and communication, and repetitive and stereotypic behavior.

💚 What do persons with autism look like?

Individuals with autism do not share any physical characteristics, inasmuch as they do not share the same developmental or behavioral patterns. The condition is also widely distributed across race and other demographic areas, making physical generalizations baseless.

💚 How can individuals with autism be “cured”?

Autism IS NOT A DISEASE. With the right intervention, many individuals with autism live rich, fulfilled lives.
