KWIK Joins the Fight Against Dengue in Quezon City

Barangay Commonwealth council member and representatives receives KWIK Multi-Insect Killer to support the barangay’s dengue prevention efforts.

KWIK Multi-Insect Killer champions community engagement and education in response to the rising dengue cases in the city.

As Quezon City faces an alarming surge in dengue cases, KWIK Multi-Insect Killer took swift and proactive action to help protect communities through a localized education campaign and door-to-door product distribution in Barangay Commonwealth, Quezon City. This initiative is part of KWIK's broader campaign to safeguard Filipino homes against dengue mosquitoes through planned outreach in 12 barangays across Pasay, Paranaque, Mandaluyong, and additional areas in Quezon City—reflecting its continuing commitment to large-scale awareness and effective prevention.

Local authorities have recently declared a dengue outbreak in the city due to a staggering 283% increase in reported cases compared to last year. According to the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Division (CESD), Quezon City recorded 1,769 dengue cases between January 1 and February 14, 2025—a nearly 200% spike year-on-year—with at least 10 confirmed deaths.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the KWIK team mobilized to bring critical dengue-related information drive directly to households. Partnering with barangay officials in Barangay Commonwealth, they conducted educational sessions on how dengue spreads, early symptoms to watch for, and actionable prevention tips. Residents were also guided on how to maintain a mosquito-free home environment and were equipped with KWIK insecticide products as a practical line of defense. The same information drive was carried out in the 11 other selected barangays as well.

For Consumer Care Products Incorporated Product Manager Catherine Perez, the fight against dengue is a comprehensive effort to reach high-risk areas and build a wide-reaching campaign focused on education and prevention.

“This initiative in Barangay Commonwealth is just one step in a broader campaign that spans multiple cities in Metro Manila. We believe that by empowering communities with knowledge and providing accessible solutions, we can make a meaningful impact in the fight against this disease,” said Perez.

The barangay-based education also emphasized how mosquitoes continue to breed in stagnant water, found in old tires, clogged gutters, and uncovered containers, making community awareness and individual action essential. The session also covered early warning signs of dengue, such as high fever, severe headache, muscle and joint pain, and skin rashes, encouraging residents to seek early medical attention if symptoms appear.

“Through knowledge sharing and community engagement, we believe we can turn the situation against dengue. But prevention must start at home—and with the right tools like KWIK, every Filipino family can actively protect themselves,” Perez added.

The initiative was warmly received by local residents and officials, who expressed appreciation for the timely intervention. With more summer months ahead, KWIK aims to expand its outreach efforts to other high-risk communities across Pasay, Paranaque, Mandaluyong, and Quezon City to reinforce the message: Basta KWIK, Tapos ang Kalaban, an insect killer tested to be proven against mosquitoes, housefly, and cockroaches - helping safeguard communities from common insect-borne illnesses.

KWIK Multi-Insect Killer Blue Variant (water-based) is available at a suggested retail price of PhP162.80 for 300ml, PhP239.50 for 500ml, and PhP281.00 for 600ml per can and can be purchased at leading supermarkets nationwide, as well as online shops like CCPI Shop,  Lazada and Shopee.

"Real learning gets to the heart of what it means to be human.
Through learning, we re-create ourselves.
Through learning, we become able to do something we were never able to do before.
Through learning, we 're-perceive' the world and our relationship to it.
Through learning, we extend our capacity to create, to be part of the generation process of life." - Peter Senge, Scientist, Authot, MIT Senior Lecturer and Gounding Chair, Society for Organizational Learning (SoL)

3 out of 5 women experience sexual harassment at least once in their lifetime - a UN Women study

What is sexual harassment?

Sexual harassment is an unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature that tends to create a hostile or offensive work environment.

The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women or UN Women commissioned a study on the safety perception and prevalence of sexual harassment in two barangays of Quezon City, Barangays Payatas and Bagong Silangan. The study was undertaken by the Social Weather Station (SWS) among 800 respondents in February 2016.

The study revealed that three out of five women respondents experienced sexual harassment at least, once, in their lifetime. Most of these women are between the ages of 18-24 years old and majority of the type of sexual harassment received is verbal in nature such as wolf whistling, catcalling or lascivious language. However, 34% of the women respondents experienced the worst forms of sexual harassment such as flashing, public masturbation and groping. 70% of sexual harassment incidences were done by a complete stranger. And 1 of 2 women did not report or do anything after the incident of harassment, and that 20% of these women did nothing because of fear.

The study is part of the ongoing Safe Cities Programme of the UN Women in partnership with the Quezon City Government, which aims to develop a comprehensive approach to decrease risk of sexual harassment and other forms of violence against women and girls in public spaces.

In photo (From L-R) Jay Sandoval, Social Weather Station (SWS); Glaiza De Castro, UN Women Safe Cities Celebrity Supporter; and Ms. Katherine Belen, UN Women Safe Cities Programme Head at the presscon on the eve of International Women's Day celebration.

Quezon City is the pilot city of the Safe Cities Global Initiative implemented by the UN Women in the Philippines, and is among 24 cities globally that have joined the programme.

Also, the UN Women and the Quezon City Government kicked off a month-long campaign on Safe Cities for Women in celebration of the National Women's Month. A thousand and more floating lanterns lighted the Quezon City skyline on the eve of the celebration of International Women's Day. The activity aims to raise national awareness on the issue of sexual harassment and sexual violence against women and girls (SVAWG) in public spaces.

Several other activities are lined up for the campaign and celebration of the National Women's Month throughout the city such as conduct of trainings against sexual harassment and other forms of sexual violence against women in public spaces among male gender equality advocates, LGBT grassroots organizations, women with disabilities; as well as an immersion activity for Safe Cities celebrity supporter, Glaiza de Castro.
