Dailypedia.net's SILOG Awards: The First-Ever Pinoy Netizen-Maven Awards

After eight straight years of honoring and recognizing the Best and the Brightest in the Philippine Entertainment industry every year via LionHearTV.net's RAWR Awards--comes SILOG Awards, the first-ever Pinoy Netizen-Maven Awards!

LionHearTV.net's sister site, Dailypedia.net is a site provides engaging, entertaining, and perhaps enlivening content for Filipinos worldwide. Thus, the award was born to recognize the efforts, impacts, and motivating factors of the subjects featured on the site.

SILOG was acquired as the name of the award-giving body since it resonates well with being Filipino. It refers to a group of Filipino dishes that are traditionally served with fried garlic rice and eggs (sinangag at itlog) for a quintessential breakfast.

SILOG simply describes the maven as the author and the audience as the users or the demographics. These two always come together, but it depends on what sort of ingredient the author gets to add to make it more palatable to the taste of Filipino online consumers.
Since SILOG as breakfast has gone to so many generations, its logo reflects how awesome, brave, and contemporary feel.

Starting today, October 15, the voting for all listed nominees commences, and the last day of voting is on November 12, 2022. Vote here!!!

Pldt, Smart, And Canva Philippines Champion Mental Health And Wellness Through Art

Through The Time Capsule Project, PLDT and Smart continue their commitment to championing mental health and wellness through art, an initiative made possible through a partnership with Canva Philippines, Mind Games, and Silakbo.

As part of a month-long celebration of Mental Health Awareness Month this May, PLDT and Smart empower the youth across the country to champion mental health and wellness through art with its campaign, "The Time Capsule Project”. With support from Canva Philippines, youth participants are encouraged to use art as a form of mental healthcare.

The Time Capsule Project invited the youth to share their stories, by using art in the forms of music, spoken word, photography, and visual arts. The top five participants recently won PHP 10,000 worth of connectivity packages from PLDT and Smart and a three-month premium subscription from Canva Philippines. They also had an opportunity to donate to their chosen mental health advocacy groups.

“As we hold the second run of The Time Capsule Project, we are very happy and privileged to get support from Canva Philippines as we champion our shared advocacy on mental health and wellness. We are looking forward to the many stories that our participants will share. It is our hope that together we can enable a generation of storytellers and purveyors of truth in the digital space,” said Katherine P. Diaz De Rivera, PLDT and Smart Stakeholder Management Digital Wellness Executive.

“Expressing yourself through design can be powerful and we believe in its power to raise awareness on mental health and wellness. With this initiative, we hope that the participants will find Canva a useful tool in expressing themselves through our mental health-related templates, a vast range of elements, audio clips, and even stock photography. Collaborating with PLDT and Smart in this meaningful initiative enables us to be a force of good in the lives of our youth participants as they design better days ahead for themselves and those around them,” said Canva Philippines Country Manager Yani Hornilla-Donato.

The Time Capsule Project kicked off with a special masterclass on content and visual creation led by Junior Designer Dre Agar, who is also part of Canva Philippines’ Video Squad. Through the app, anyone can design and use Canva’s features whenever they want, wherever they may be. Users can play with filters, pair fonts, add photos and fun elements, mix and match colors, and use Canva’s vast range of templates for all their design needs. The app is available for download on App Store and Play Store.

Behind the Brushstrokes : Meet The Artists

It is a common knowledge that China has a long and glorious history in both arts and traditional crafts.

Last January 29, I was invited again by Ms. Melanie Lee to meet the artists behind the brushstrokes and was grateful to chanced upon one of the sons of Mr. Chan Lim, Rolex.

Mr. Rolex Chan Lim

Last time it was the Dr. Alex who showcased his talent and love for the arts with live demo and a quick painting lessons for the attendees.

According to Mr. Rolex, none of the Chan Lim family members have formal degrees related to arts. The Chan Lim family holds 5 Doctors of Philosophy degrees (Ph.D.) These degrees are in the fields of engineering, educational technology and management. and they are currently engaged in leadership positions with multinational companies.

Creativity in arts is an important area of focus for the family. Infusing Western with Eastern art and exposing these in different media enabled the family to develop art done on other materials like fan, lantern and porcelain plates.

The very first Chan Lim family art exhibit was in 1995 at SM Megamall. The family has held 15 exhibits to date, both locally and internationally.

CHAN LIM is the name used by the family patriarch in signing all his art works. The pen name was crafted out of his and his wife's last names.

Chinese instrumental music and non-fresh peonies filled the venue as we go around the exhibit,  feeling the Chinese vibe the more while looking at the 300 artworks done in porcelain plates, scroll and oil paintings.

Chan Lim family of artists and students :
The brilliant people behind the brushstrokes

The family continues to get involved in the arts by  actively developing and promoting Chinese brush painting in the Philippines and abroad.

The Chan Lim family is one of the few remaining notable Chinese brush painting artist in the country today, and is sought after in this field. Art classes are conducted in the family studio located in Pasig City. Their paintings can be found in private collections here and abroad. Their workshop fee is worth P6,000 per session for 3 hours. Maximum students per class is 15 pax.

The family patriarch during the tour. Does he look 80? He's too groovy for his age, right? :-)

There will be 8 exhibits scheduled in 2017, will have more than 200 art exhibit days. These art exhibits are to comemorate the 80th birthday of Chan Lim.

So what are you waiting for? Catch the Chan Lim exhibit for an extremely beautiful and delicate display of plates and scrolls and be inspired.

The Chan Lim exquisite exhibit of plates and scrolls will be available until February 12, 2017 at SM City North Edsa The Block Atrium.
