AIA Philippines Partners With The PCP Foundation To Empower More Filipinos To Live Healthier, Longer, Better Lives

From left to right: Max Ventura, Diane Madulid-Santiago and Regina Custodio from the AIA Philippines ESG Team, Dr. Maricar Limpin, 2021 President of the Philippine College of Physicians (PCP), Bernadette Chincuanco, Head of Branding and Communications from AIA Philippines, Dr. Kenneth Hartigan Go, Vice-President PCP Foundation, Dr. Sandra Torres, Executive Director PCP Foundation.

Since it was established in 1947, the country’s premier life insurance company, AIA Philippines (formerly AIA Philam Life), has been actively partnering with various organizations to empower more Filipinos to live healthier, longer, and better lives.

As a testament to its commitment, the company is inking more partnerships to support initiatives which push its advocacies promoting health and wellness. AIA Philippines’ most recent collaboration is with the Philippine College of Physicians Foundation, Inc. (PCPF) who received a donation pledge of PHP1.5 million to fund the organization’s Bridging Leadership Workshops and projects, and other non-communicable disease registry/programs.

“We at AIA Philippines are well-positioned to make a difference in health and wellness by supporting initiatives that can contribute towards improvements in the health care sector,” Kelvin Ang, CEO of AIA Philippines, said. “We are proud to partner with the PCP Foundation and other organizations in the health sector. Supporting their initiatives go a long way towards helping more Filipinos live Healthier, Longer, Better Lives.”

The Philippine College of Physicians (PCP) is the umbrella organization of internists in the Philippines. This organization aims to continue the medical education of internists and other physicians, and provide accreditation and certification of training programs for internal medicine in the Philippines. PCP created the PCP Foundation to become the social service arm of the College.

The PCP conducted a Bridging Leadership Workshop in 2021 for their members. This is a transformational leadership program focused on enabling the physicians to work with other stakeholders, such as the local government units, in providing innovative health projects for their respective communities. AIA Philippines is supporting some of the projects.

Some notable programs under the partnership include GINAHA (the Sweetheart Project, which aims to improve health outcomes through community empowerment of indigent hypertensive and diabetic patients of barangay San Isidro village, Virac, Catanduanes. Another is the “Magpangaman gamit ang BOTA, Leptospirosis matana ta” initiated by the PCP Western Visayas-Panay chapter that aims to prevent Leptospirosis among farmers from Cabatuan, Iloilo, a town where a high incidence of Leptospirosis is found. If these programs are successful, it can serve as a model for preventing non-communicable diseases and leptospirosis in other areas.

Aside from the PCP Foundation, AIA Philippines has other ongoing partnerships with various organizations in the health sector: the Cancer Research and Registry Philippines Foundation (CARE), the Philippine Alliance of Patient Organization, the Philippine College of Surgeons Cancer Commission Foundation (PCS-CanCom), I Can Serve Foundation, UP Cancer Institute, the Philippine Society of Public Health Physicians (PSPHP), and the Ateneo School of Governance (ASOG).

AIA Philippines Offers Same-sex Beneficiary Inclusion

The future is uncertain, and one must be prepared for anything. To make protection more inclusive, the country’s premier life insurance company, AIA Philippines, allows customers to enlist their same-sex partners as beneficiaries, as aligned with the Insurance Commission’s position on the matter.

With this update, AIA Philippines customers can enlist their partners as beneficiaries of their existing and future policies, regardless of their marital status. If the customer and beneficiary are married, they would need to submit a marriage certificate or other proof of marriage to be enlisted as a policy beneficiary.

“Everyone should have the means to protect their loved ones from life’s many risks, and expressing love and responsibility to those we care about should not be limited by how we identify as people. Our promise of helping people live Healthier, Longer, Better Lives is for all,” Kelvin Ang, AIA Philippines CEO said. “With these adjustments in place, our LGBTQ+ customers can protect their loved ones through AIA Philippines’ innovative offerings.”

If the couple is not yet married, same-sex partners may still be approved as beneficiaries if declared together with family members. Those who wish their partners to be sole beneficiaries may still be allowed on a case-to-case basis, requiring documents that show proof of their relationship. Customers may inquire with their AIA Philippines financial advisor for more details.

This inclusion pertains to active policies and products to be procured by customers in the future. Hence, whether you’re a current AIA PH customer or if you’re looking to invest in the future, you can enlist your same-sex partner as a beneficiary upon submission of the requirements. With this update, protection from life’s many uncertainties is no longer limited to heterosexual partners.

This update is in line with the Insurance Commission’s affirmation that any individual, regardless of gender identity, may designate any individual as a beneficiary, subject only to certain exceptions under the Civil Code.

Life is unpredictable, and no one knows what tomorrow may bring. And AIA Philippines is committed to ensuring that a healthier, longer and better life is available to all its customers no matter what.

Things You Can Spend Your (Forgotten) Unclaimed Insurance Benefits On

What if you suddenly found yourself on the receiving end of a windfall? What if years ago, a relative died and no one knew about the insurance policy that was left behind for you?

When people think about life insurance, top of mind would be the most important things: provide money for loved ones upon death, defray costs in the event of a medical emergency or illness. While those are all true and cover the most important uses of life insurance, what if those were already covered and now you are the unexpected recipient of a large amount of money. Beyond the basics, this insurance claim can give you financial wiggle room for your needs and wants.

Here are five other ways you can spend your insurance claims:

1. Use it to pay estate tax
Unexpected death usually leaves behind a lot of financial loose ends, and among those, estate taxes can be the biggest expense that you need to deal with. Fortunately, a windfall can provide you with the resources you need to settle those taxes, so you can gain access to any assets left behind.

2. Invest in real estate
This is your opportunity to create passive income for yourself and your family. Buy that land, house, or condo and rent it out. With a carefully thought-out real estate purchase, it can generate multiple returns on your investment.

3. Buy collectibles
Did you know certain toys, watches, luxury bags, or even sneakers can sometimes sell for millions? Collectible investment involves buying something which (hopefully) will exponentially increase in value and be worth much more than its original sale price in the future. The item could be very popular with pricing depending on the condition, rarity, and uniqueness of the item.

4. Invest in yourself
Take that master’s degree you’ve always wanted or enroll in a certificate course that has always been at the back of your mind. Learn new skills, take up a new hobby. Whatever skill you decide to learn, investing in yourself can only result in gains for you. Whether it’s for your personal use (like taking an MBA) or something you can earn from (like baking), new knowledge will always come in handy.

5. Take out another insurance policy
Strengthen your financial resilience. The great thing about life insurance is it provides a practical safety net during times of uncertainty and with the insurance claims, you can use it to reinvest in a new insurance policy that will yield another set of benefits later on.

You can choose from a variety of products depending on your need – whether it’s for protection from life’s many risks or something which will help you grow your money long term such as investing it in bonds, you can never go wrong with an insurance policy.

Find out if you have benefits to claim

Do you think you have benefits to claim? AIA Philippines (formerly AIA Philam Life) recently announced its search for thousands of policyholders who have unclaimed benefits which range from policy maturities, reinstatements, claims, redemptions, and even refunds. Despite fervent efforts to contact its customers through registered mail, email, callouts, and their agents, there is still a huge number who have yet to be reached.

“We hope to reach customers–those who we have lost touch with amid changes in communications technology and who have bought their policies under our former brand, Philam Life,” shared AIA Philippines Chief Operating Officer Geegee Lopez. “We are doing this because we have a promise that goes beyond passively responding when our customers make a claim. The promise of helping our customers live healthier, longer, better lives includes making sure these hard-earned benefits get to the intended recipients. We’re asking for everyone’s help in finding our customers or their beneficiaries so we can give them their benefits.”

You can quickly check if you have unclaimed benefits via https://bit.ly/AIAPH_CheckYourMoney. Simply input the policy owner or beneficiary details and wait for a notification of policy verification.

HOW TO “STILL” SURVIVE THE PANDEMIC

Masks on. Stay two meters apart. Wash your hands often. Even if we are already two years into a pandemic, we still cringe when we hear someone sneeze or cough in public, more so when it’s someone near us. We have never been this cautious about our health, or as interested in knowing the latest updates on cases and variants. We even know the ideal daily dosage of Vitamin C.

But before you stock up on those fruit juices, hear this out. In the season-ender of SUPERHUMAN, host Wil Dasovich and his finale guest, Dr. Dex Macalintal, a registered nutritionist and lifestyle medicine physician, talk about the nuances of our immunity and how to best double down on our health. Here are the best takeaways from the episode, to help you stay in the best of health during the pandemic.

Nutrition is key.

The best time to address sickness is before you get sick. The risks related to the top non-communicable diseases in the Philippines, such as coronary heart disease, stroke, and diabetes, can be greatly reduced by reducing salt, sugar, and unhealthy fats from our diets.

Keep it simple. Read the labels when choosing what food to buy for your weekly grocery run. The shorter the ingredient list, the better; if you can go for the non-processed food item, even better. If you are unsure about the ideal mix of food on your plate, you can ask your doctor or a nutritionist.

Just move.

Begin the day with exercise. Raising your heart rate releases endorphins. Moreover, it improves your metabolism, which allows your body to burn more calories in its resting state and process nutrients better.

If you can’t get your sweat on earlier in the day, exercise at a time most sustainable for you. What matters is not the time of day, but the long-term viability of your lifestyle change.

Community helps you stay healthy.

The mental stress and anguish caused by long periods of isolation can impact your immunity. The pandemic limited many of our in-person interactions. However, physical distancing does not have to mean social distancing. Community and meaningful interactions with other people are crucial to our mental and physical health. Connect with your loved ones as much as you can (while still following minimum health safety protocols, of course).

A medical consult is just a button away.

Given the constraints of mobility and the recommendation to avoid risky areas, people have been visiting the doctor’s office online. Telemedicine and the applications that enable it are now available to many. With more healthcare professionals joining networks, the medical expert you need can easily be recommended by the one you initially consulted.

AIA Philippines, the country’s premier life insurance company, recently introduced Total Health Solution, an ecosystem accessible through a single touchpoint platform that can help you live better so you can maintain a healthy lifestyle, protect better so you have peace of mind that you are prepared for life’s uncertainties, and get better, giving you access to healthcare needs should you find yourself unwell.

With Total Health Solution, you have the support you need anytime, anywhere. Healthcare needs such as teleconsulting, medicine purchase via delivery, vaccine administration, and discounted laboratory procedures are easily accessible. Within the ecosystem, you can view your policies and make changes. You can also be reminded when premiums are due.
