Uratex Philippines, the nation's leading sleep solutions provider, has partnered with the Philippine Society of Sleep Medicine, Inc. (PSSM) to tackle the widespread sleep deprivation affecting Filipinos. This collaboration, launched at Uratex Alabang under the theme "Partnering for Quality Sleep," aims to raise awareness, conduct crucial research, and develop innovative sleep solutions.
The partnership, years in the making, unites Uratex ("The Sleep Specialist") with leading sleep medicine doctors. Dr. Rodolfo V. Dizon Jr., PSSM President, highlights the shared mission: "This collaboration, five years in the making, will directly benefit Filipinos."
Sleep deprivation is a significant, often overlooked, problem in the Philippines. While surveys suggest high rates of sleeplessness, comprehensive national data is lacking. The partnership will address this gap by conducting nationwide research on sleep deprivation and disorders like obstructive sleep apnea.
Stephen Lee, Uratex's Sleep Business Unit Director, emphasizes the importance of awareness: "Many Filipinos suffer from sleep issues without realizing it. This partnership combines PSSM's medical expertise with Uratex's product innovation to create awareness and solutions."
This initiative transcends product sales; it's a commitment to improving sleep health. Dr. Abigail Zaraspe (PSSM Immediate Past President) stresses the need for comprehensive national research to accurately assess the extent of sleep problems. Dr. April Caparas-Manlagñit (PSSM Secretary) highlights the underdiagnosis of sleep apnea, estimating a significant increase in cases since 2016 due to lifestyle changes and other factors. Dr. Jimmy Chang (PSSM Vice President) points out the Philippines' lagging resources in sleep medicine compared to other countries, particularly given the long working hours prevalent in sectors like BPOs. He also notes the impact of cultural factors, such as extended shopping hours and the long Christmas season, on sleep patterns.
Natividad “Naty” Cheng, Uratex Co-Founder and CEO, reinforces the company's dedication to providing high-quality, affordable sleep products for all Filipinos.
The collaboration will involve sleep health seminars, equipping sleep centers with Uratex products, and developing research-backed sleep solutions. Uratex's R&D will be validated by PSSM, ensuring solutions are tailored to the diverse needs of Filipinos. This addresses the growing demand for sleep disorder testing and treatment, with some centers facing three-month waiting lists.
The shared vision is to make sleep health a national priority. Better sleep leads to better health and a brighter future for Filipinos. This partnership marks a significant step towards providing science-backed solutions to improve sleep health across the nation.
