Road to Champion: Honda Pilipinas Dream Cup Concludes with Thrilling Final Round

HPI’s young racers proved that passion and perseverance pave the road to victory

The Honda Pilipinas Dream Cup (HPDC) wrapped up its much-awaited Final Round with electrifying performances, high-speed battles, and emotional victories that marked the culmination of a remarkable 2025 season.

Held at Tarlac Circuit Hill, every twist and turn of the young riders served as a reminder of how far they’ve come—each lap symbolizing their growth, grit, and determination to chase their racing dreams. The final round was more than just a competition; it was the realization of countless hours of training and the fulfillment of dreams on and off the track.

Spectators were treated to intense wheel-to-wheel action, with riders pushing the limits of speed and control aboard their Honda motorcycles. The Final Round consisted of three thrilling races that showcased the riders’ relentless spirit and hunger for victory.

In Race 10, Ronald Galzote dominated the track and crossed the finish line first, followed by Joharry “Jolo” Suba in second and Vash Travis Aguilar in third. Race 11 saw another stellar performance from Galzote, who again took the top spot, with Miguel Dizon and Eunice Mae Sta. Ana on second and third spot, respectively. In Race 12, Jolo Suba bounced back with a strong finish to claim first place, while Galzote and Aguilar secured second and third, respectively.

With consistent podium finishes and unmatched pace throughout the season, Ronald Galzote was crowned the 2025 Honda Pilipinas Dream Cup Overall Champion, a testament to his dedication, skill, and determination to lead the pack. 

The season full of challenges, but every lap taught Galzote something new. The support from HPI and the racing community made this dream possible.

Knauf and DSWD Move Forward with Transformative Partnership for Filipino Construction Workers

Knauf Gypsum Philippines, Inc. and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office IV-A CALABARZON officially formalized a partnership to improve the skills and livelihood of construction workers throughout the region, held recently at the KNAUF Training Academy at Libis, Quezon City. 

The agreement is anchored on Republic Act 11310, or the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) Act, which is the national poverty reduction strategy and a human capital investment program in the Philippines. 

Here’s how Knauf and DSWD are putting this law into action: by opening up real opportunities for construction workers to learn, upskill, and get connected with employers. Their joint training program targets both seasoned workers who need skills enhancement and individuals with no prior construction experience, ensuring that anyone eager to learn has the chance to join. 

"Our main goal is to provide skills training for the region’s construction workers. This will be a community-based training, so we will pick among those who have skills and know a little or are working in the construction industry or those who have experience. But now, with this new partnership with Knauf, anyone 18 and above who wants to learn and develop a skill can be trained,” said Mr. Mark Dewey Sergio, Knauf Gypsum Philippines’ Managing Director. 

“The partnership isn't just about teaching skills—it’s about empowering individuals, creating opportunities, and building a path out of poverty.” 

Knauf Academy: Forging the Path Forward 

Taking the lead in skills training is the Knauf Academy, a training center that has been equipping Filipino construction workers with gypsum board installation and jointing techniques. It was established in June 2022 and is situated along Libis, Quezon City. Nearly 848 workers have graduated from its programs, helping them improve their expertise and stand out in the construction industry with their lightweight installation skills. 

"Lightweight construction is our focus because it benefits the Philippines," states Sergio. "In a tropical climate prone to earthquakes, this method improves flexibility, functionality, and safety of structures. Think of it as combining the lightweight style of the bahay kubo with modern construction techniques for better safety and durability.” 

"Knauf Academy has two main goals,” says Sergio. "First, we aim to improve the skills of Filipino installers, especially in lightweight construction, to elevate the quality of their work. Second, we want to increase job opportunities. For workers already employed, it’s about gaining new skills that can lead to promotions. For those unemployed, we help them develop the necessary skills and directly connect them with our partner contractors for job placements.” 

Raising the Bar with K-Trabaho 

Knauf isn’t stopping at training. To create a bridge between skills development and gainful employment, the company launched K-Trabaho, a job fair designed to match Knauf Academy graduates with contractors in need of skilled workers. 

"We took things a step further by creating K-Trabaho, which is a job fair driven by Knauf," Sergio shares. "In this program, we invite contractors to interview and hire our academy graduates. At a recent K-Trabaho event in August, we connected 70 trainees to Multi-Development and Construction Corporation (MDCC)." 

This initiative not only opens doors to employment but also ensures beneficiaries have a tangible chance to improve their livelihoods. 

Scaling Impact Through Innovation 

Knauf initially aims to impact construction workers in CALABARZON before eventually setting its sights on a national-scale transformation that would train over 45,000 construction workers across the Philippines. The company's vision includes creating more training centers and deploying mobile training vans to reach far-flung areas, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility. 

As Knauf Gypsum Philippines and the DSWD move forward together, their partnership stands as a beacon of what corporate social responsibility can achieve: empowering people, transforming lives, and paving the way for a stronger, more inclusive construction industry.

Leading fiber broadband and technology provider Converge ICT Solutions Inc. was named Silver Awardee for its ‘Countdown to Zero Waste’ campaign at the American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (AmCham) 2nd Corporate Social Impact Awards held recently.

The company earned the distinction under the Environmental Sustainability and Resource Efficiency category for its multi-phase waste management program that targets the reduction and proper management of its operational waste, particularly waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), polyethylene/PVC materials, plastics, and general solid waste. 

This long-term effort supports the company’s goal, outlined in its sustainability agenda, of achieving zero waste to landfill by 2030.

“Our Countdown to Zero Waste campaign is our way of ensuring we care for the environment as we grow. This recognition affirms our effort to accelerate our zero-waste journey, deepen our circular practices, and champion initiatives that protect our environment while empowering the communities we serve. We aspire to be tech for good, leveraging our resources, reach, and expertise to create lasting impact for the planet and for people,” said Converge Corporate Compliance & Data Protection Officer and Corporate Sustainability Officer Atty. The three-phase campaign traces a clear trajectory of expanding environmental responsibility across the organization. For the first phase of the initiative, Converge partnered with government-accredited scrap recycling companies to process and repurpose e-waste, which is one of the world’s fastest-growing waste streams amid accelerating digitalization. 

Through these partners, discarded equipment and materials are transformed into usable products such as bricks, chairs, and other construction items. Converge also deployed zero-waste bins in its various business centers nationwide, giving employees and customers convenient drop-off points for old devices.

Another segment of the campaign also focused on upcycling of tarpaulins, and other marketing materials, converting them into bags, mats, and household items through KreAtions PH. The social enterprise is a woman-led business which employs single mothers and stay-at-home mothers and wives as stitchers of the upcycled products. The Countdown to Zero Waste also encompasses the refurbishment of returned customer premises equipment (CPE) or old modems. 

For the program’s second component, Converge also pushed to reduce single-use plastics in its offices, reinforcing sustainability into everyday practices.

The most recent phase, meanwhile, introduced a company-wide waste segregation system in line with Pasig City’s local regulations, ensuring consistent waste management across Converge facilities.

According to Converge, the campaign has already resulted in significant waste reduction and recovery;  Since its formal launch in 2023, the program has repurposed 1,333 kilograms of plastic waste from employees and customers into eco-cast bricks for construction. In 2024, 65.72 kg of e-waste was collected and turned over to partners for hauling, processing, and recycling. For the recycling of CPEs or modems,  8,000 were issued in 2022 and over 112, 500 in 2023, instead of brand new units.

Uplifting Farmers through Sustainable Supply Chains

FEP—implemented through JGFs—continues to empower smallholder farmers by integrating them into the Group’s supply chain. By providing training, market access, and resources, FEP helps ensure consistent, sustainable sourcing while uplifting livelihoods and strengthening rural economies.

EastWest Bank, foodpanda, and Visa have jointly unveiled their co-branded EastWest foodpanda Visa Credit Card during a Makati City launch event attended by media representatives. Positioned as the Ultimate Foodie Card, it caters to culinary enthusiasts looking for instant rewards on daily indulgences.

Cardholders enjoy up to 10% cashback on foodpanda orders (capped at Php 400 monthly), with subsequent purchases earning 3% back. Additional perks include 1% cashback on international spending and 0.3% on local transactions, subject to a combined monthly cap of Php 1,000. Rewards are credited weekly to the user’s pandapay wallet, aligning with today’s on-demand lifestyle.
