From One Mother To Another

Dimples Romana shares message and tips for fellow moms on Mother’s Day

Artificial intelligence (AI) is helping humans with an increasing number of complicated activities, if not totally replacing humans in the modern world. However, no advanced technology will ever be able to match a mother's resilience in the face of the difficult demands of parenthood. Giving moms the strength and ginhawa they need enables them to provide their family with the same.

How do they do it? Actress and working mother of three Dimples Romana offers a piece of her mind.

TIP 1: Find your support system.

“Having three kids while working is a bit of a challenge. Thankfully, I am surrounded by good people - both family and friends,” Dimples said.

After giving birth to her third child two years ago, Dimples remains grateful for the immense support that her husband Boyet (whom she fondly calls “Papa B”) gives in ensuring that all their kids are always well and happy. To keep her guided as she gets through every day, Dimples firmly holds on to her family and her faith.

“Family. Sila talaga ang lakas ko. At dasal. Madaming madaming dasal,” she added.

TIP 2: Time management is priority-setting.

The showbiz industry always demands long hours but Dimples always makes time for family.

“No matter how busy I get and how crazy our shoot schedules go, I make sure intentional ang pag-set ko ng time with my family,” she said.

She would even discourage her family from using phones whenever they do activities together to ensure that they are all absolutely present.

“No phones muna, no other distractions. Just them,” she added.

TIP 3: Self-care.

Being a mother may be a 24/7 job but everybody needs a break from everything–and everyone.

“Recently ko lang talaga natutunan ito. I almost reached a burnt out stage kaya I got worried. That’s when I really took a step back and reassessed what needs to be done,” Dimples added.

For Dimples, taking solo road trips, going on a date with herself at cafes and restaurants, and reading good books keep her mind at ease. She also regularly keeps an eye on her spiritual well-being through prayer and meditation.

Most importantly, what allows Dimples to stay on top of the complexities of being a mother is staying well and healthy by practicing good skin care, as well as taking supplements and vitamins that she needs to stay strong and active.

Tiwala ako sa Actimed Quality Generics which I buy from Generika Drugstore. When I know I’m strong, I can also keep my family strong,” Dimples added.

TIP 4: Remember why you love being a mom.

For Dimples, the best thing in being a mother is the job itself. But like any job, being a mother involves risks and challenges.

Iba na din talaga ang hirap ng buhay ngayon. We truly have to count our blessings sa bawat araw na nakikita nating masaya, malusog, at ligtas ang pamilya natin sa ano mang sakit o karamdaman,”  Dimples said.

But what makes the risks worth taking is the reward that constantly reminds Dimples why she loves being a mom.

“It’s having the ability to raise children who will hopefully make the world a kinder, safer, and happier place for all,” she stressed.

Despite these tips, no one really knows the best formula to being the most effective mom, or parent for that matter. But everybody knows that it takes a lot to do so much with so little –whether it’s time, money, or know-how– and even more difficult to choose to do it everyday. Ultimately, a mother like Dimples finds comfort–a sense of ginhawa– in knowing that there are millions of others who also draw their daily strength from their unique experiences of caring for their families, and are always ready to share their learnings, from one mother to another.

Ginhawang Mother’s Day to all moms! 🧡

The slogan "Fashion Forward" neatly captures the essence of Huawei wearables, and simultaneously its quest to secure its place as a truly high-end brand. The brand new WATCH FIT 3 inherits the classic square design of earlier FIT models, while the materials and manufacturing processes, interaction design, and expanded selection of strap colors represent a comprehensive leveling up. All of the innovations to the design elements add up to a cohesive realization of Huawei's "Fashion Squared" concept. A 1.82" extra-large high-definition AMOLED floating display brings a broader, more three-dimensional visual experience. The aluminum alloy watch body has a chic texture. Thin, at 9.9 mm, and weighing just 26 g, the watch body is no heavier than a strawberry, making it the lightest and thinnest entrant yet in its series. With a diverse range of color options, and a vibrant UX that integrates the dazzling rotating crown, the WATCH FIT 3 is not just easy to use, it's also an attention-grabbing piece of wristwear.

On the fitness front, the HUAWEI WATCH FIT 3 aims to be a personal trainer right on the user's wrist. The Stay Fit app has been thoroughly upgraded. Its food database has been expanded to better cover 50 different countries and regions, and a new nutritional analysis feature has been added, helping users strike a balance between diet and exercise, and leverage science to achieve healthier weight loss. The WATCH FIT 3 also marks the debut of Smart Sports suggestion that recommends doing certain types of exercise for certain durations, based on the user's habits, weather conditions, and Activity rings status, in order to encourage users to develop healthy habits.

As for health monitoring, the WATCH FIT 3 features HUAWEI TruSleep™4.0, which comprehensively improves upon previous iterations. TruSleep™4.0 covers a more complete range of physiological indicators, its sleep score system has been improved, and offers sleep pattern interpretation and tailored advice. Additionally, the new Sleep Breathing Awareness feature allows users to sleep with a better peace of mind. The WATCH FIT 3 also comes with HUAWEI TruSeen™ 5.5 health indicators monitoring, with 30% more stable heart rate monitoring. SpO2 interface has got a revamp, and a user can check their current SpO2 in as little as 25 seconds.

Converge stages first silent auction to nourish mothers and infants under Caritas Manila’s Unang Yakap program

(From left: VP & Head of Enterprise Risk Management Jerome Orfano, VP and Head of Corporate Communications and Public Relations Jay-Anne Encarnado, VP & Head of TOCD and HR Operations Enrique Reyes, and VP and Head of Corporate Planning, Transformation, and Sustainability Management Bryan King Kay)

Converge holds the first-ever silent auction to benefit the Unang Yakap program of Caritas Manila, which nourish moms and babies.

Converge ICT Solutions Inc., a fiber broadband and technology provider, organized a silent auction of high-end items donated by prominent leaders in advance of Mother's Day. The proceeds from the auction went toward providing under privileged mothers and their infants with the necessary resources for their first thousand days under Caritas Manila's Unang Yakap program.

The first batch of the ‘Grace Under Pressure’ MentorSHE program graduates who generously donated items to the Unang Yakap Silent Auction.Twenty-three year veteran in the sports broadcast industry, first female to anchor PBA games, many times Olympic commentator and trainer and mentor for Women in News and Sport for the Asia Pacific region Patricia Bermudez-Hizon served as guest speaker during the closing ceremony of the first MentorSHE program, cycle 1 (center).

Pre-loved luxury goods and high-grade items were displayed for employees to peruse at the company office while the auction itself was conducted through an online platform. Shoes, bags, and clothing were up for auction at the event. Most of the items were donated by Converge President and Co-Founder Maria Grace Uy who championed the women mentorship program called “MentorSHE” and the first batch of mentors and mentees under the women leadership program. Converge CEO and Co-Founder Dennis Anthony Uy also donated his slightly used branded shoes and polo shirts.

“At Converge, we strive to empower the communities through our services and our sustainability initiatives. The Unang Yakap auction is the commencement activity of the first batch of MentorSHE ladies. We are proud that our women leaders are taking steps to reach out to fellow women to ensure their welfare. However, our work is only beginning. Soon, we hope to also provide livelihood opportunities to these mothers in underprivileged communities,” said Converge President Grace Uy.

The MentorSHE program is a woman-to-woman mentorship training initiative in Converge organized by its Human Resources (HR) and Corporate Communications and Public Relations (CCPR) groups where senior women leaders serve as mentors to a younger set of female managers.

The Unang Yakap program of Caritas Manila, meanwhile, was created to support mothers and their infants from conception to up to two years old. To date, CaritasManila has launched the program in Metro Manila, some areas in Bulacan, Cavite, and Laguna.

Converge VP and CCPR Head Jay-Anne Encarnado said that through the Unang Yakap auction, Converge is contributing to the attainment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals No. 2 (Zero Hunger) and No. 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing)

Employees bidded on luxury items such as these Prada pumps at a starting price of Php 2,000.

“This project is also aligned with the Sustainability Commitment of Converge, particularly on its pledge to create a positive community impact,” said Encarnado.

“We're not just celebrating the money we've raised for Caritas Manila's Unang Yakap program; we're celebrating what makes us who we are. It's about our people coming together, showing kindness, and making a real difference in the community. Every bid, every donation, it's all part of our shared commitment to do good," said Enrique Reyes, Converge Head of Talent and Organizational Capability Development (TOCD).

Converge has been a partner of Caritas Manila since August 2023, signing a Memorandum of Agreement for joint activities such as charity donation cans and more recently, an in-kind Segunda Mana drive last December.

Almost 100 items were auctioned off, which generated over Php 100,000 worth of donations.

In line with its longstanding commitment to providing hydration innovations designed to meet the needs of Fitness Exercisers, Gatorade—the world’s leading sports drink—has developed Gatorade No Sugar. The drink is designed to refuel effectively with its superior and uncompromising hydration benefits via electrolytes without sugar or calories. Nutritionists and dietitians have been recommending it based on a recent nationwide survey by MIMS, which is a testament to its effectiveness.

To bolster and extend its commitment, Gatorade has officially partnered with Anytime Fitness, one of the world’s best-leading gym chains.

This inspired partnership, which was made official last March via a contract signing held during the grand opening of Anytime Fitness’ newest branch at the Fame Mall, is designed to support the health and wellness journeys of thousands of Fitness Exercisers who have committed themselves to strengthening and achieving their lifestyle goals this year and beyond.

As Anytime Fitness provides them with 24/7 access to its facilities, Gatorade gives them superior and uncompromising health hydration that’s essential for their exercise and fitness activities. It gives these Fitness Exercisers the fuel to stay on top of their game and get the most out of their sessions, including maximizing their sought-after gains and maintaining their ideal weight.

More than 145 Anytime Fitness branches in the Philippines have committed their participation, ensuring that Fitness Exercisers have consistent access to their facilities and Gatorade’s electrolyte drinks.

Moreover, Gatorade and Anytime Fitness are collaborating to hold upcoming Gatorade No Sugar boot camps in the gym chain’s branches to improve gym-goers’ fitness experiences further.

Katrina Suarez, PepsiCo Philippines Marketing Lead for Non-Carbonated Beverages, said, “At Gatorade, we understand the needs of Fitness Exercisers and are fully committed to providing solutions that address them. We know they exercise to improve their overall health and well-being, and we want to be a truly reliable partner in that journey.”

“Through our partnership with Anytime Fitness, we have the special opportunity to rehydrate and refuel them further in each session so they can get the most out of their workouts and activities, as they get replenished with the essential electrolytes that keep them moving without the sugar or calories,” she adds.

Mark De Joya, Chief Operations Officer of Anytime Fitness Asia, affirmed Suarez’s sharing, stating that the gym chain is ready to work with Gatorade to help people become stronger and healthier.

“The partnership between Anytime Fitness and Gatorade marks a significant milestone in the fitness industry, uniting two powerhouse brands committed to empowering individuals on their health and wellness journeys. With Anytime Fitness’s global network of over 5,500 gyms offering 24/7 access to world-class facilities and expert coaching, paired with Gatorade’s expertise in hydration and performance nutrition, our members can elevate their workouts to new heights. Converge launches free wifi at OFW Lounge in NAIA 1

NAIA Terminal 1 OFW Lounge opened this January, offering a place for OFWs to stay and relax while waiting for their flights. Converge extended its free wifi to the lounge in time for the opening

In an effort to improve their digital experience at the Philippines' transit hubs, leading fiber broadband provider Converge is offering free, fiber-fast connectivity to thousands of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), who will be served by the OFW lounge in NAIA Terminal 1.

Dedicated to the nation's modern-day heroes, the OFW lounge opened its doors in January 2024 and offers 500 Mbps upload and download speeds thanks to Converge's connectivity. It is a modern, peaceful space.

“We laud this project of the House of Representatives, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), and Manila International Airport Authority (MIIA) to provide a designated place for our hard-working kababayans while they await their flights. To contribute to this effort, we have provided our fiber broadband connectivity for their use for 2 hours. If they are a Converge FiberX or Surf2Sawa subscriber, they have an additional 6 hours of internet access,” said Converge Chief Sustainability Officer Benjamin Azada.

The OFW passengers may log on to the Converge landing page then enjoy complimentary internet access. A separate page will appear for existing Converge subscribers, and they may further avail of additional hours of connectivity.

According to the Manila International Airport Authority or MIAA, OFW lounges in other terminals are being considered.

Free food and beverages are offered at the lounge.

This free wifi project is aligned with the company’s fourth pillar in its Sustainability Agenda, Creating Positive Community Impact. Further, according to Azada, efforts such as these dovetails with Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028 (specifically the strategies of Reinvigorating Services and Enhanced Connectivity) two very relevant  outcomes are: (1) enhancing inter-sectoral linkages through increasing internet speed, coverage, and network, and (2) seamless and inclusive connectivity by addressing universal mobility and connectivity needs.

“We are proud to be a partner of the government in providing free wifi in public spaces, including this latest facility in NAIA Terminal 1. Our OFWs deserve no less than this seamless, high-quality connectivity to keep them connected to their loved ones and their employers abroad,” added Converge CEO and Co-Founder Dennis Anthony Uy.

Converge recently completed the roll-out of its Free WIFI project in all terminals of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). Eight more airports nationwide are slated to be powered up with Converge fiber broadband in the next several months.

Converge women leaders encourage young girls to explore ICT route

Partners in Gender Equality and Inclusivity: Converge held a gala dinner as part of the International Girls in ICT Day Celebration, attended by no less than ITU Director Dr. Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava (sixth from left) and DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy (seventh from left).

Women leaders from Converge ICT Solutions Inc. took the opportunity to inspire young girls to pursue professions in information and communications technology (ICT) fields in celebration of International Girls in ICT Day 2024.

This year, the country hosted the global commemoration of International Girls in ICT Day, with Converge joining hands with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), in conjunction with the Digital Innovation for Women Advancement (DIWA).

Converge hosted the gala dinner attended by the Hon. Secretary Ivan John Uy (DICT), Dr. Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava (Director, Telecommunications Development Bureau, ITU), Undersecretary Atty. Jocelle Sigue (DICT), UN representatives, ITU youth ambassadors, organizers and partners from the PCW, USAID and DIWA.

VP and Head of Corporate Communications and Public Relations Jay-Anne Encarnado underlined the progress Converge has made in increasing the representation of female employees in Converge, with the goal to make them 30% of the workforce by 2030.

“As a technology company, we are fully aware that women tend to be under-represented in our industry. Thus, at Converge, we have been deliberate in changing this norm to improve diversity, equality, and inclusion within the organization as we have always believed that a diverse and inclusive workplace drives better performance and fosters innovation,” shared VP and Head of Corporate Communications and PR, Jay-Anne Encarnado during the gala dinner at Illustrado restaurant in Manila.

As part of the celebration, Converge women leaders SVP and Corporate Compliance and Data Protection Officer Atty. Laurice Esteban-Tuason, AVP and Head of Service Operations Center Glycerinne Apolonio, and AVP and Program Management Lead for Digital Channels Jannica Juniller engaged with students in mentoring sessions at the Far Eastern University (FEU)  aimed at advancing women's participation in the field of ICT.

Esteban-Tuason joined the mentorship panel on artificial intelligence and data analytics, while, in separate sessions, Apolonio and Juniller took part in the Internet of Things (IoT) and digital creative sessions, respectively.

"As women leaders in a technology company, we see it as our duty to inspire, and empower the next generation, particularly young girls, who aspire to also become future leaders in ICT. We hope that our stories are able to encourage them into taking this route, and contribute to making our local tech sector more diverse, dynamic, and inclusive," Esteban-Tuason said.

Students from FEU, Philippine Women’s University, St. Scholastica’s University, and De La Salle University were able to gain insights from the sessions, which covered topics including the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Analytics, Blockchain, Cybersecurity, digital careers in the gig economy, and digital creatives.

According to DICT, the celebration of International Girls in ICT Day is a fundamental step in breaking down the barriers that impede the progress and full participation of women in the technology sector. This year's celebration was themed “Leadership,” highlighting the indispensable role of strong female role models in ICT, and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy, in his welcoming remarks during the International Girls in ICT Day Forum said DICT aims to create an environment where women stand as stalwarts of innovation and progress in ICT and STEM.

We convene not merely to celebrate the achievements of extraordinary women, nor solely to acknowledge the potential of girls in the ICT sector. Instead, we gather with the resolve to dismantle the barriers hindering women's full participation in ICT. We aspire to cultivate an environment where women stand as stalwarts of innovation and progress in ICT, STEM, and beyond,” said DICT Sec. Ivan John Uy.

According to United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, women continue to be underrepresented in leadership roles, especially in STEM work, as exacerbated by the digital access gap.

She mentioned that in 2022, data from the ITU revealed that women and girls using the internet were only at 63 percent, compared to 69 percent for men.

"The full equal and meaningful participation and leadership of girls in the digital sphere is not just a matter of equality. It's a fundamental pillar for advancing sustainable development," said Mohammed.

"Without more girls in ICTs, the world will continue to be designed by and for men and the potential of girls and women will remain untapped. Closing the digital gender divide requires women's full representation and leadership," she explained.

“All of our efforts form part of our promise to #LeaveNoOneBehind in this digital age. We are happy to be with like-minded people and together, let us build a future where we don’t even have to talk about women empowerment and gender equality because then, we are all equal,” added Encarnado.
